I pay ~$68 for just internet through RCN, including renting out their modem-router which I'm considering getting my own. I bought my own and it’s worked fine with RCN. Right, the fees associated with renting one from them is stupid -- I haven't gotten around to researching one so if anyone here can recommend one, I'd appreciate it. It's an additional $14 on my bill and they're totally fine with you using your own as long as it follows certain guidelines.

FWIW, I have a 1TB account with Xfinity...internet only ($29) (Bought my own cable box and router based on suggestions from the Xfinity site) A YoutubeTV account ($35) Roku sticks on two TV's to play media off my server,
and I'd never even CONSIDER going back. TBS and Comedy Central were the biggest misses for me. Comedy Central plays things like the Daily Show for free with about 2 minutes of commercials. If I need anything else, I [] it.
The two downsides to this setup are: 1) The concept of flipping or channel surfing is really shot to hell. No such thing anymore. I used to settle on American Pickers or Storage Wars or Pawn Stars or some other drivel when there was nothing else going on. You can't do that with YTTV. You've got to kind of plan your channel surfing by maybe recording every Kimmel or Fallon or Colbert or something like that. It's not ideal, but that's a real first world problem 2) The fucking zapping is pathetic with YTTV. I get that I'm an old, and not particularly dextrous with my index finger, but sliding a bar EXACTLY 3 minutes (or 3.5 minutes or whatever) to skip commercials is a real pain in the ass. Sometimes I'll get a tiny image of what I'm zapping past and can wait until I see the show start up to release my finger, but usually I have to guess how long the commercial break will be and slide the tiny ass slider bar exactly that distance. If I'm wrong, it's another 30 seconds of tinkering to get it where it needs to be. I understand why they can't put a +30 second button on the app, but hold shit that's a pain in the ass.

We recently upgraded our internet speed and I was very interested in cutting the cord, but it turned out that the price difference between internet + all the cable channels vs internet + what we'd want from Hulu, HBO and Showtime ended being negligible. I gave Hulu a seven day trial and found that while I could probably deal with the user interface, it would be a pain in the neck for the rest of the family.
Having everything in one place with On Demand and decent DVR functionality is totally worth it to me, especially when the price difference is less than $20.

Just play video games, everyone! You won't have time for TV anymore. It's great!

FWIW, I have a 1TB account with Xfinity...internet only ($29) What do you mean by this? 1000mbps? Or a 1TB download cap? Cause 1000mbps can't be that cheap wherever you live or I'm real mad.

Sorry 1TB monthly download cap.
I consider myself to be a pretty heavy user, I [] a lot of crap including every 3D movie I can find, I DL Xbox stuff, and every bit of TV I watch is streamed, and I've never exceeded 800GB/month.
The only caveat is that I do nothing in 4K. If/when I get a 4K machine, I may have trouble with the 1TB cap.

In brand new news, YTTV now has an app on Roku which eliminates the hassle of having to manage YTTV from my phone and my fat fingers trying to navigate the slide bar.
Even more of a reason to love YTTV as a solution.

I really want to try this out and cut the cord, and I find it really weird that the lack of the Food Network (and a couple of other networks) is what is essentially holding me back

Watching DVR shows on my phone while commuting to and from work everyday is sweet. The future is now.

Chopped is my ASMR trigger. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have the option of just decompressing after work while watching people freak out in a kitchen.

Yeah they just added a bunch in the last month.
EDIT: Looks like they reached an agreement last year to stream all Food Network, Travel Channel and HGTV shows.

Watching DVR shows on my phone while commuting to and from work everyday is sweet. The future is now. Surprisingly, I was doing this in 2006 by downloading shows overnight from a Tivo to my Blackberry. But it was VERY clunky and the process failed regularly. (And, of course, watching TV on a Blackberry screen was less than optimal).

Scrubs was probably the first like non cartoon or dumb vh1 show I fell in love with and I'm rewatching it for the first time since when I was obsessed in high school and it still holds up as pretty damn great.

Started up Gravity Falls the other night and it's definitely a quality cartoon show if you can look past the Disney branding.

I just started up UnREAL this last weekend, have since binged the first season and am well into the second season. This show is great. A little ridiculous, but I love this kind of dark drama.
