After how Hollywood treated Frasier over the years there’s no way he’s getting the Oscar

There's no way any movie wins best picture except EEAAO.

The Whale (cardiac episode while jacking off) vs Elvis (cardiac episode while taking a shit) is a battle for the ages in Best Actor

I would like to see Fraser win over Butler, but they are both deserving. Both A+ performances, Butler so much so that he seems to be stuck playing Elvis for the rest of his life.

I think Colin will take it am I crazy? Is he not even in the hunt? I'd say it's possible but Austin Butler and Brendan Fraser are winning most of the predictive awards I think.

Just saw Tar last night. Going to be pissed if Blanchett doesn't win. Tar is my hero.

Didn’t Elvis’ daughter just die? Butler definitely taking it

I would like it if Tár won, Ava- or otherwise. Bummer that the most likely wins seem to be two of the lamest choices but what can you do. I still need to see Top Gun but this is one of the better nominee years in recent memory at least

I feel pretty certain Everything Everywhere will win best picture. Banshees is the only one with an outside shot. I haven't seen any buzz for the Fabelmans
I think they will pick Fraser for best actor but it will be tight with Butler

Alright I have now seen the nominees so here’s my definitely not asked for ranking, with slight separations for my general opinion on quality gap.
Tár The Fabelmans Avatar: The Way of Water Top Gun Maverick Elvis
Triangle of Sadness Women Talking
Everything Everywhere All At Once Banshees of Inisherin All Quiet on the Western Front
My major takeaways this year in order of least to most hot.
We need to stop with the “high brow” war movies for a while because even when they’re well made they are boring as fuck.
We are probably good on general class consciousness films with nothing interesting to say for a while.
McDonagh should stick with the stage for a while or reignite his interest in making movies that actually play well on the screen.
The “lol so random and quippy” humor that permeates a lot of the superhero genre wrecked most of the emotional impact that EEAAO could have had and it’s kind of a shame because I think there’s a great movie in there somewhere.

Blanchett is great and deserves to win but as a movie I thought Tar was one of the worst I’ve seen in a long time. At least an hour too long, and it’s the first half. I was proud of myself for being able to stick through it at least.

I was proud of myself for being able to stick through it at least. It is for sure a slow burn but at the same time I can’t think of anything I’d want to cut from it. I think the punches land way harder because of that and it’s a better movie for it but I also mostly understand this take

I feel like this year is going to be one where the "more deserving" performance--Blanchett--loses out to the more historic and emotional nature of another performance, kind of like when Halle Berry won over Sissy Spacek. I think a lot of people will feel like, as great as Blanchett is, she doesn't really need a third Oscar to prove anything. She's going to continue to get and do strong work regardless.

Just finished the last of the Oscar movies. Seen everything in all major categories, down to foreign and documentaries. My choices:
Best Picture: EEAAO (My preference and My choice to win). Worst: Triangle of Sadness and Tar Best Actor: Fraser to win, my preference being Nighy. Worst: Butler Best Actress: Blanchett to win, my preference being Yeoh Worst: de Armas International: All Quiet on the Western Front to win, my preference being Argentina, 1985. Worst: EO Animated: Marcel to win, I didn't like any of them...I suppose I laughed a bit during Puss in Boots Supporting Actress: Curtis to win and is my preference. Both Chau and Bassett weren't "bad" necessarily, but they were both chewing scenery throughout. Supporting Actor: Quan to win, my choice is Gleeson. These were all good performances and I'd be OK with any of them winning. Director: Kwan to win and my choice Documentary: Navalny in a runaway. Worst: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed. Adapted Screenplay: Do they throw one to Maverick? Maybe. My choice is Living Screenplay: Maybe they give this one to Fablemans to keep Spielberg happy. If we're going off script, I'd give it Banshees. Cinematography: All Quiet on the Western Front wins, I'd pick Empire of Light
Not the worst season for film, but nothing really stuck with me apart from EEAAO, Argentina, and Navalny
