I feel like those are the two records they play most from live tho. I guess it's exciting to hear them in order? ive only seen them a couple times but ive only seen a few being there songs. and while maybe they play from that album a good bit, i feel like it's usually the same songs. would love to see more from it live.

Julien Baker was sooooo good at Pride today.
I also could've swore that she was playing P4K but doesn't look like it. Guess I imagined it, pretty bummed now.

Mamby On The Beach...Better than Bonnaroo

I went to Mamby yesterday, but skipped today.
Pros:
The beach: No explanation needed Sound: I spent my entire time at the "Beach Stage" (their main stage), but everything I heard sounded pretty good. Bands started/ended on time: After p4k last year I have a new found appreciation for this. Mamby ran like a well oiled machine.
Cons:
Beer selection: Most stands just had Corona, Corona Light, or Tocayo. Getting in/out (especially out): It took me over an hour to get home, even though I left half an hour early to beat the crowds. Not nearly enough portos: Never less than a 10 minute wait.
I had fun while I was there but ultimately I decided the cons outweighed the pros which is why I decided against going today (I was also pretty hungover this morning). I wish they could do this at Montrose, but I think React has permanently worn out there welcome there.

I had no issue getting back today but that's probably because the fest felt empty on a Sunday. VIP had a way better booze selection plus the sightlines were amazing on both stages.

So, I thought U2 was alright but not great, partially because of my experience and partly because of the band. Our seats were about as literally on the side as possible (100s section), meaning we could only ever see a sliver of the screen at a very acute angle. It also meant that the band was playing away from us the whole time and each (mobile) band member paid lip service to our side once for a few seconds each over the whole show. So it felt pretty removed from the whole thing.
That said, the show started off great. The first 8 songs (opening 4 + Joshua Tree hits) were fantastic but after that our section died completely. The sound got progressively worse throughout the set and by the final stretch of songs it was droning in and out (was probably more based on where we were sitting in proximity to the speakers). I expected the crowd to die off as the album progressed but not for my entire area to be silent for the after-album hits set. By the time they played "One" (second to last song this time), half of my section had already left. Then U2 closed on the new song instead of I Will Follow (hadn't seen them before so I'd have enjoyed it) which was a real downer... closing on a low-key unreleased song is just not a smart way to close out a set.
The band themselves were good, although I guess I expected a bit more of a show. Edge and Adam really just stand there and do their thing. Bono also seemed to lack any sort of agility... he really didn't move around the stage much or even move at all.
That said, it was good to check them off the bucket list. First 8 songs were great despite the seating circumstances but the set got progressively more disappointing from there. Far from awful or anything... it was enjoyable enough. Just completely underwhelming.

Also, I really just hate going to shows in fucking football stadiums. What an awful place to have a concert. (Baseball stadiums too)

Pulled off the triple show night on Saturday night. First, Tunde Olaniran was great as usual at Logan Square Arts Fest. Then METZ put on their usual good set, but they didn't change it much from the last time I saw them a few months ago. I think they may have played a new song though, since they will finally have their next album out this fall. Crowd got pretty rowdy for a street fest crowd, too.
Got over to Lincoln Hall after that, missed the two openers, but that was fine. Pains of Being Pure at Heart sounded really good for a band that's been inactive for a few years now. Played a lot of songs from their upcoming album, which sounds exactly like them. The main guy started the encore with a solo cover of Lorde's "Liability," which was a surprise. Pretty good setlist otherwise too.
Then got over to Concorde pretty quickly, and made it in time as Local Natives started their set. They were pretty great as usual, plowed through an hour+ of their usual set. So that was a pretty good night.

i always see the best stuff at logan square arts fest, love the set up there and sunday was a great day for it. caught a couple random things while perusing in the late afternoon, and then got to see circuit des yeux do an incredible set. we had a blanket and were chilling, as was pretty much everyone else in the field for their set, and the crowd certainly did not seem to be expecting the yelping aural assault they received. it was great.

Pains of Being Pure at Heart were pretty bad last night.
There were only about 40 people there, according to Mookie their Chicago show had close to 400 so I think that set the tone for the evening.
Kip was talking about how he was sweating so much because of the BBQ they ate earlier, and then he was talking about how sometimes when you're on stage you can't keep track of time and it feels like you've been up there for hours, etc.
Then two songs before their original set was supposed to end (according to last.fm) he quickly went up to each member, said something, and they nodded. Thought they were opting not to do an encore and sure enough they're playing Belong two songs later and that was that.
Sound was awful too.

and then he was talking about how sometimes when you're on stage you can't keep track of time and it feels like you've been up there for hours, etc. this is amusing. the first time i saw them they played maybe 25 minutes. the opening bands had all played longer sets. i saw kip afterward and said something like "don't you know a cover song or something to get that set to at least a half-hour?" he was not amused by that.

I thought about going and just straight asking him, "what was that?"

Rammstein was a lot of fun last night and I'm glad we went out to see them. First time in the lawn at Tinley and it was fine.
Worth noting that blankets were *not* allowed out there last night and I had to go back to my car to drop it off. Thus, we missed all of 3Teeth's set, though I'm not sure we 'missed' all that much.

Sorry about that, as Wretched said they've always allowed blankets in the lawn in the past. I was planning on bringing a blanket for Macca, maybe I should call them in advance to make sure it will be allowed.

It's all good. I noticed afterwards that they sent out some sort of notification to the FB event page yesterday afternoon, but I didn't see it. Maybe keep any eye out for that.

I ran into a coworker at Nick Cave, and he stopped by the other day and told me it'd been 30 years since he'd last seen him - at Metro.

Stapleton made a new fan tonight and Petty and the Heartbreakers were on point. The rain was annoying at times but overall a great show. I might have more words tomorrow but for now I'm exhausted.

Stapleton's pretty great. Did he have the same lineup as last summer? (bassist, drummer, wife singing backup)

Went to the Rooney show in Indy last night ... was exactly what you'd expect. Nice to go back to my teen years a bit.
