Low show was pretty weak. No jamming, little depth to what was played. Even the older bangers like "When I Go Deaf" were weak, boring and short. Lot of talking. Buyer beware.
Metro new sound system looked pretty but the real test will be if rap shows aren't muddled disasters not a Low show.

Never seen them before, but I'm torn between them and Sparks at Big Ears.

I got to see the second show of the Beach House tour tonight and it was pretty great. Tickets were very hard to come by because Space Song has apparently become a TikTok sensation. I kinda love the new album and would highly recommend seeing them if you can

I felt like an old guy at the Tyler, the Creator show last night in KC (ex-boarder Timbo invited me along), lots of kids screaming for him and Kali Uchis (who played just before him). Tyler's show was really good, he's got a house, a car, a boat, and an island. His stage banter was hilarious, he mentioned that he's not used to seeing snow since he's from LA, which got a few boos, he said, "you don't like the snow? It's beautiful!"

I was looking at the prices for tix to Tyler the Creator this week at United Center, and they are over $100 for the nosebleeds, so unless I get a windfall in the next two days, that's a no for me.

The Weather Station was really fucking good tonight. Highly recommend checking out that show if it comes near you. Really talented band and it was a lot of fun for a bunch of songs about the planet being on fire

Magdalena Bay was so fun, make sure you see them whenever they come back in town. Really good job of translating the album sound to a live show

Magdalena Bay was so fun, make sure you see them whenever they come back in town. Really good job of translating the album sound to a live show I wound up here last minute and I'll tell ya for a band that Gorilla vs. Bear championed back when that was a thing I was pretty impressed. The opener was probably one of my worst favorite opners I've ever seen- literally sat in the lobby of Lincoln Hall with my earbuds in listening to the Bulls game the last 15 minutes

Damn, I skipped that show since I didn't want to make the drive in the snow. Oh well.

Beach House was insanely high energy last night. Crowd was super into it as well and it made for a wonderful vibe. They sounded phenomenal too. Would definitely say if you like them at all to catch them on this tour

Weather station were great at Lincoln hall last night. Definitely a show more suited to a venue like that compared to a pitchfork fest set. Pretty funny encore where the bassist forgot the words when singing a solo and everyone was laughing and having a great time
Lincoln hall cannot continue to sell $8 beers in 10oz plastic cups tho I’m sorry that’s gotta get figured out

I think they got sick of cleaning up broken glass after (or sometimes during) every show.

Quick Innings Fest review. It's a nice fest, never felt too crowded, nice setup, perfect weather this time of the year in Phoenix, the baseball theming was actually a lot of fun although a bit weird this year since there's no Spring Training happening with the lockout
First act I saw Saturday was Del Water Gap who wasn't bad. Inoffensive indie rock, had a song or two I really dug, has potential. Then Black Pistol Fire, two piece southern rock ish band that was pretty fun. Dashboard Confessional was fine, I've never actually listened to them but I could tell it was one of those bands that was important to a lot of people. St Vincent did pretty much the same show she did at Pitchfork which is fun but didn't blow me away near as much the second time and didn't have quite the same energy
The aforementioned Billy Strings was incredible. Just an absolute burner of a set, they opened with a 35 minutes straight of a jam based around "Pyramid Country". The set was very light on covers, only one, but being y first time seeing him that was fine. The energy was incredible. I can't wait to see him again a million more times.
Foo Fighters ended it, I'd never actually seen them and wanted to cross it off the bucket list and I'm glad I did, though I don't think I need to see it again. Dave Grohl at least has a lot of energy but I watched the Lolla 2021 set earlier this week and it was nearly the exact same set down to the stage banter
On Sunday, Petey started the day and honestly was pretty bad. Like emo rock for kids of the 2020s I guess. I'd seen the dude before, he does comedy skits on TikTok, and I think he should stick to that. Jade Bird was next and she was fantastic, and she's got the best stage presence and banter, she's adorable. Sounded great and probably my number two set of the fest behind Billy. Fitz and the Tantrums next and they were fine, got the crowd dancing at least and had a lot of energy even if I think their music is super mediocre. Matt and Kim were kind of annoying, I don't know when their set switched to just doing a ton of covers and being more EDM ish but it didn't do it for me.
War on Drugs were very solid. The mixing was much better at this show than the last one I saw, you could actually hear the guitar. Wish they had like 10 more mins because there was some songs I wanted I didn't get, but good stuff. My Morning Jacket was supposed to be in this slot and I wish they still were, but TWOD is as good as a replacement as I could ask
Tame Impala to close it and they were fine, I enjoyed it enough, but I really don't think I need to see them live again. The light show is cool but not mind blowing and I don't ever feel like they have a ton of energy. Still some songs that are a lot of fun live though but I'm ok if this time of them headlining literally every festival ever ends

i picked up a friend's last-minute extra for the beths at metro last night. i hadn't seen them since 2018 at beat kitchen. their confidence as a live band has skyrocketed since then.
did they have a song or two featured prominently on a tv show or in a movie? there were a couple songs that seemed to get huge responses from the crowd.

Gang of Four was great Tuesday night in Minneapolis. It was basically Greatest Hits Live!, but they played everything I wanted to hear. Everyone sounded good, and Jon King had a lot of energy, by the encore the crowd where I was standing was moving.

Katy Kirby was awesome at Sleeping Village last night. She co-headlined with Sun June, who played before her. Crowed thinned out after Sun June which was kind of a bummer, but everyone who stayed was very engaged.
Her new songs sound terrific and I can't wait for her second album.

First time seeing Guided By Voices last night and it was everything I wanted it to be and more. Played something like 50 songs, including a generous number of hits. Played a bunch of other kick-ass stuff that I wasn't familiar with but will be checking out soon. Bob was in great spirits, the crowd energy was through the roof. What a great band.

Wet Leg was a lot of fun last night, and the crowd was really into it. They were pretty polished and were oozing confidence, I think they're going to have a big year.
That was my first show in almost 3 months, it was nice to get back to it.

Counterpoint: crowd was a dud and while they were very charming, show would've been better at the Bottle Where were you? I was in the center of the floor about 20 feet back from the stage. People were dancing all around me, and I was surprised to see people knew the lyrics to songs other than Wet Dream and Chaise Lounge. I agree that would have been better at the Bottle, but the move to Thalia was clearly justified. I'm grateful it wasn't moved a second time to like the Riv or whatever.

Illuminati Hotties we're pretty good again at LH last night. New songs were good, really good crowd too.
Didn't really care about Fenne Lily, but I could see Big Thief fans being pretty into her. Pom Pom Squad were good live, but hopefully they can write a few new stronger songs.
One thing I found funny is that was probably one of the shortest crowds I've been in. I stood off on the side in my usual spot, and I could clearly see over everyone in front of me.

We were in the back house right; the energy died right behind that center 20ft back spot. (Except for the World's Greatest Dancer making a #rare indoor appearance by the hot dog stand.) They were def more polished than I expected and they can obviously draw, I just wonder what they'll change to continue bumping up to bigger rooms.
