I'll play this one (where it helps to be old)
Saw REM at the Aragon July 1984, went to get Murmur and Reckoning signed at Rose Records before the show. Was second in line. I know that's not particularly early for REM, but it seemed like they were still relatively unknown at the time.
Saw Nine Inch Nails open for Peter Murphy on April 7, 1990. There was a record store around 200 S. Wabash (near Central Camera). They were giving away a pair of tickets if you just wrote your info on a slip of paper. I stuffed the ballot box and "won"
No idea if I'm 1.0 or 2.0. I think I joined in 2006. I remember LollaJacquline vivdly, but not much else.
The board turned me on to Frank Turner, but other than that my taste (or lack) is pretty well set, so suggestions tend to go over my head.

What are good “the board saw this before it was popular” or whatever shows I seem to remember a fair number of you people at Lincoln hall for The Weeknd BDBU and I were at that Weeknd show. It was great. I was at that show too. A few years ago I might have said Fleet Foxes at Schubas but I don't think they're that big anymore? Feel like a couple of us were at that. Krentis and I saw Sturgill Simpson in the little room under the HoB but idk what his draw would be considered these days either. |

We didn’t really watch the sets, but we encountered a few white rappers back in the day that ended up pretty big. Kendrick shortly before GKMC came out. |

Not board, but my best is seeing Smashing Pumpkins open for Syd Straw and Camper van Beethoven (headliner) at Mabel’s in Champaign on Oct 13, 1989.

I met Ed Sheeran one night after he was first-of-three on a Snow Patrol bill I saw at least 10-12 years ago, he was wandering around the parking lot bored after the show. Thought his set was great and he was a nice dude.

Not board, but my best is seeing Smashing Pumpkins open for Syd Straw and Camper van Beethoven (headliner) at Mabel’s in Champaign on Oct 13, 1989. Mabel’s!!!! In a similar vein, I saw Soundgarden open for Soul Asylum at Cabaret Metro on July 16, 1988. Soundgarden was very bad back then. |

I believe Freddie Gibbs at Hideout was a month later. And then he played the Metro in January, where Ted was removed. |

I think there were some boarders at the first ever Them Crooked Vultures performance at Metro on Aug. 9, 2009. They didn’t play Lolla that year but it was a Lolla aftershow. I was thrilled to see JPJ as well as Grohl just drumming the whole night.
Iirc, BOH was next door at Gman shooting pool.

i saw a run-dmc show in august ‘86, and ll cool j opened on one of his first tours, and these 3 weird rapping dudes came out on skateboards for a short set first and i told my buddy man, these beastie boys really aren’t that good. oops. licensed to ill came out later that year and i was like welp i was wrong ;-)
