How is that even evaluated No I will not click the link Visually? I have never seen a crowd that big on the south field for a headliner. I don’t think.

Yeah they use drones to count attendance at each set. I can't speak to how accurate it is.

Eminem in 2011 was probably just as big, only one I can think of

Billy Eilish last year (crowd was admittedly huge, but Chappell's was bigger from what I have seen) Radiohead the last time they headlined, but they were unopposed Post Malone on the north end that year he broke through, but I'm sure the north end is smaller so too hard to compare
Those are probably the other previous biggest ones I can think of

I experienced all the crowds mentioned. None come close to what Chappell was. I've never seen anything like it. And while she was certainly the draw, the back of the field density was likely aided by Kesha being up next on the opposite stage.

If things hadn't fallen through at the last minute you know for sure Gnarls Barkley would have had a crowd 2-3x the size of Chappell

We left his set to go to the bathroom and I'd never had to fight through a crowd so hard so far back before. We were past Jackson before the crowd actually opened up enough to walk through normally.

Bruno Mars crowd was huge, saw the last 25 minutes of his set after starting with all 12 people at The National. I think his crowd was bigger than Billie and Chance

I have notifications set up on Twitter for lollapalooza, and they tweeted about creating their own cryptocurrency coin, holding a spaces for it and a special guest.
Before I could get Twitter to load, all three tweets had been deleted but I did find this referencing the coin

Random reflections:
Weather-wise, I'm glad we didn't have a day get rained out or cut short but this was easily the hottest Lolla I can remember attending. I can't recall ever having to deal with humidity like we had this year, which just compounded the issue.
Water station lines were pretty bad near the popular stages at peak times. They should really consider adding some back near the space between the Toyota Den and the north field like they used to have, and put something on the left side of T-Mobile. I wound up just spending the $5 on a can of Liquid Death a few times just to not deal with it, but also had some well timed refills where I was able to walk right up.
Agree with FiveHole's observations about logistics. They have really improved the entrance process over the past few years, and I never had to wait to get into the park (a far cry from the long queues of old). While you'll see complaining on Reddit about inconsistent security checks, I think the overall discrepancies were pretty minor (and often born out of people getting things through one day that they shouldn't have, only to have security catch them the next). No real food and bar lines to speak of, and the official merch store line moved quickly (and could be skipped if you had Paypal/Venmo).
They also shrunk the VIP viewing section at T-Mobile this year, which addressed one of my big issues from last year. Lakeshore/IHG Stage seems to have a bigger platinum pit now though (which never seemed to be anywhere close to full) and a hard divider down the middle -- didn't kill the experience but it pushed a lot of the crowd to the stairs side early in the day. I don't know what we need to do to get a video board back at the bandshell, but it's still sorely needed.
I am confused about the people willing to sit in long lines for sponsor activations though. I feel like it speaks to some shift in the Lolla demo/generational mindset that I saw people waiting in what looked like an hour or more line to get some free tik taks or customize a sock -- every brand seemed to have a huge line that exceeded the Toyota Den in their prime when bandanas were the big giveaway. My leading theory is it reflects the increase in people who buy a ticket primarily for one or two artists, but will still fill their day in the park just hanging out instead of hitting sets. The only one beyond Toyota (which you can now do on your phone, which eliminates the ipad queue) that I did was a round of Liquid IV slushies, which were brilliant.
The camping thing for K-pop bands continues to be pretty damn annoying. They certainly move tickets but I hope they can start strategically booking these bands in a way that doesn't hurt every other act on that stage and create safety risks (they had to go on the PA and ask people to move back and be considerate during the lead up to Sexyy Red on the stage Stray Kidz were headlining because it was becoming such a mess). Fortunately, not much I needed to see on the north side of the park that day.
Chappell at the T-Mobile was a pretty incredible experience. Joyous even amongst all those people. Huston said on Discord that he regrets not moving Noah Kahan to a main stage last year, and that they're negotiating in that option with folks moving forward -- but still, big kudos to Kesha for being humble enough to move to a side stage to allow that to happen.
Killers are just incredibly consistent and that was kind of set you'd expect to kick off a Greatest Hits tour -- also good to see all the OG members on stage for it.
Blink's stage banter is kinda tired, and Tom still can't really sing live but it doesn't really matter in the moment. I got to be sidestage for Zedd thanks to an unreasonably cheap Chase rewards offer, and that was pretty amazing to watch up close (and having access to chill in the IHG lounge all weekend was extremely helpful).
Undercard highlights: Destroy Boys crushed, the country artists I saw all delivered (Kaitlin Butts, Sam Barber, Tanner Usrey) and felt like a soft-launch for a country headliner in 2025, Olivia Dean was ethereal and way too good for being so early in her career, I need to know what the kid (Stefon) at Vince Staples was on that he decided to push his way to the front and volunteer to rap a song he absolutely did not know, Two Door Cinema Club being a nostalgia act makes me feel extra old.

Crowd was basically out to the back sidewalk. But yeah, Chance in 2017 was the biggest I had seen until Chappell. Though they added 15k capacity last year, so it's harder to compare.

Forgot they added 15k capacity and then paywalled 25% of the existing viewing areas. Definitely a greedy fest but to FiveHole's point at least it's pretty well run all things considered.

today was the Wednesday I mentioned above. there was nothing "maybe" about it. a real tough day, and when the lawyers have a tough day, the opposing parties have it even tougher. tomorrow will be the 7th day in a row, but at least that particular judge is always in a hurry to get through the court call.

and felt like a soft-launch for a country headliner in 2025 I feel like this is gonna be Zach Bryan, feels like a very easy entry point before they get into the less cross-overy country acts My guess is he's headlining Roo, Lolla, Outside Lands, and ACL all next year

Zach Bryan, Post Malone country cosplay, and Kacey Musgraves are imo the most plausible options.

Didn't even think to check Chase rewards. Was this just in the regular app or did you need to be in the Sapphire Club? And what did you have to do to get into the IHG Lounge? I believe it was limited to Sapphire members and it was posted to their rewards portal (under experiences) about a month out from the fest. You could also buy VIP single days with points, along with the Zedd sidestage package and a private DJ lesson from Zedd (which apparently was held offsite during the fest, which is kind of annoying).
The IHG lounge wristbands came with the Zedd sidestage experience I got. It was a nice little private lounge to the left side of the IHG stage that had free snacks and coke zeros, lots of shade and seating, a private bar, and clean A/C bathrooms. You could also sign up to be side stage for one IHG stage set a day if you got there early. Was a great place to pop into to beat the heat and recharge a bit -- not sure if they'll bring it back since it was generally pretty empty.

Not to go all Billy Joel/Gnarls Barkley a year out, but I'd bet good money that Oasis is playing Lolla Chicago next year.
Huston said last year during his annual Discord AMA that he thinks the reunion is finally going to happen, and they are one of the few rock acts that can still #1 a bill. He separately said last year that he really wants to land Oasis. This year during his AMA he mentioned his favorite booking of all time is on the line-up for 2025.
Take from that what you will.

I actually met Huston at the fest. Really cool guy but he got a little drunk when we were hanging out and started bemoaning the fact that he couldn’t quite get Billy Joel for this year but was elated that he agreed to headline in 2025
