Driving down Harlem Avenue south of the Stevenson Expressway offers dozens of delicious eating options.
NBC Chicago's Food Guy Steve Dolinsky passed through Bridgeview recently, when he stumbled upon a tiny strip mall, with some of the best shawarma around.
The vertical spits are clearly the stars at Hello Shawarma, wedged between a Hello Hookah and a Hello Thai in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it mall along south Harlem Avenue. You choose from lamb, beef or chicken, sliced fresh. Then, either stuffed into pitas or stacked into sandwiches or rolled up in thin, lavash-like wraps.
“The most popular one is the wrap, which is called in the language of Arabic the Shrak, and it’s the most traditional bread we make here,” said co-owner Mahmmod Abunijmeh.
Customization is the rule. You can add the garlic sauce, pickles or lettuce, or just let them decide.
“And we put on the chicken garlic sauce and pickles, on the beef and lamb. We put parsley, onions, tomatoes and the tahini sauce,” he said.
One nice touch is fresh olive and pickle bar, featuring crunchy carrots, cauliflower and other pickled veg. Cooks will either slice the shawarma old school, with a thin, long serrated knife, or if it’s busy, they’ll pull out the electric shavers, which do the trick nicely.
bridgeview sounds cool!!!

My friend just sent me a IG Reel, apparently they were going to vote this morning to approve the permit for RiotFest at Douglass Park
So maybe they should have moved next year's festival to Bridgeview and done one last year in Douglass Park?

Riot Mike is a….character, but let’s not pretend that the Chicago Park District Board is comprised of smart, upstanding citizens.
Maybe I’m reading in to the message too much, but Mike’s use of the term “deficit” makes me think they were upping the amount he’d need to remit to get the permit. *shrug*

reading the sun-times interview he did, it sounds like he was just tired of having to go through the Public Outreach Process and its associated annoyances/potential delays, even though i assume the aldermanic support and departure of the other festivals from douglass park meant securing the permit was still just a formality i guess there's probably some logistical stuff associated with putting on a music festival that makes it legitimately frustrating to not have a guarantee that you'll have your permit in hand in a timely fashion, but absent any info that isn't being disclosed, it's hard to feel too sympathetic when the exciting new egalitarian vision for the fest involves charging $120 for parking (and when they've apparently been sitting on this venue change for a month without alerting anyone to the fact the fest might not be held in douglass park)

Just saw that Sprints is on the bottom of the poster. I think "Literary Mind" is my SOTY so far

This very well could be the end of Riot Fest. No rock festival has lasted in Bridgeview.

I could see them moving back into the city if/when Bridgeview fails. When it comes to money, people find a way to mend fences.

If I worked anywhere in Crook County that gave me the ability to deny permits for Riot Fest I probably would do that after they were dicks about all this lol. We’re all gonna have to party like it’s the last riot fest because it probably is.

It's not up to Cook County, this is a city issue. We have a city government that is desperate to find any revenue stream they can. Riot Fest generated millions in tax dollars, CPD isn't going to stick their nose up at that if the fest wanted to return.

My guess is they may try to move it to somewhere like Milwaukee or something, before they move it to like Chilocothe or something like Kamera said

The article stated that they wanted financial restitution from either the festival or the stadium... I doubt the stadium is going to want to pony up any money if the team is going to leave after their contract is up

yeah, i don't think they're going to get restitution. bridgeview is saying they're not in breach of contract because the festival doesn't take place inside the stadium. kind of wild to think the contract to play there is literally just about what happens in the stadium with no regard for parking lots or the surrounding area. and riot fest is just going to tell them to fuck off like they do with any other entity that they don't agree with.

The big takeaway from my perspective is that the team was notified in early May. Riot Mike can fuck off for keeping this a secret for a month
Hate to say it, but RIP Riot Fest. At least as an independent festival. Gonna go so HAM - might be worth it for y’all to come see me explode.
