Yeah for us casual fans that was really perfect. Got to hear almost every song I wanted before we left for Spoon im making fun of the shitty graphic with the copied/pasted setlist that has the show notes as song numbers and the 3 pictures demonstrating a clear mastery of the "rotate" function its a great fall out boy setlist, you can leave halfway through

we're going to try to get there today for verboten, and try to stay at least thru the hives; I'd like to see doa and basement but that may be too ambitious in this heat. we made it from verboten to sir chloe inclusive, but did not leave our spot in the shade, before the better half rightly decided that 11 bands in 2 days was enough for her. I was glad that ferroman found us in our spot, and that I ran into mookie at verboten. better half has tentatively declined to go tomorrow due to potential rain, and I may not get there until saxsquatch's set.

I don't know about anybody else's interaction with security but I have now been waved through the security screening while wearing a backpack both days. I did see them giving the business to two young women on day 1 so I guess I just don't look suspicious enough.

I walked in with my backpack that they didn't open. They were only checking people who set off the metal detector

assuming no rain out, solo me is overly ambitious planning to get there in time for saxsquatch -> cobra skulls -> nekrogoblikon -> 3 NOFX world bands -> tierra whack -> little bit of something corporate -> lamb -> zombie [who I have surprisingly never seen]

Did it rain a lot overnight? Curious how much of a mess the grounds are likely to be already.

Waiting until the gates are supposed to open to tell you they aren't opening for at least another hour is pretty shitty.
Edit: But also very on brand with Riot Fest.

On the bright side, it's gonna be a whole lot cooler today.
Aiming to get in for Sprints (and maybe a song or two of Saxquatch), if the festival opens by then.

assuming no rain out, solo me is overly ambitious planning to get there in time for saxsquatch -> cobra skulls -> nekrogoblikon -> 3 NOFX world bands -> tierra whack -> little bit of something corporate -> lamb -> zombie [who I have surprisingly never seen] got there in time for a messy chicken sandwich with too much bbq sauce and coleslaw on the sandwich from publican, and got there in time for a couple minutes of local hardcore band alenia, who I did not like. saxsquatch was as advertised, but would have been more surprising if I didn't know about his schtick before seeing him. cobra skulls was the best of the NOFX stage bands, maybe the best band I saw today, nekrogoblikon was okay, but also gimmicky, swingin' utters was good, but not as good as cobra skulls, and strung out wasn't as good as swingin' utters, and vandals weren't as good as strung out. glad to run into ferroman at the vandals, and then at tierra whack who wasn't what I look for in hip hop I ran into a former work colleague (the one who saw ben harper instead of daft punk in '07 and thinks he made the right choice). a friend of his, and when I looked back into the crowd I espied theBosma. airportman and Mrs airportman were right next to theBosma so it was good seeing them too. stood thru about 30 minutes of mcmahon and the something corp reunion, and about 15 minutes of lamb of god (and imo only, their run of the mill heavy metal), before deciding that all that was enough for the day. guess I'll catch Rob Zombie in some sort of stand alone show.

Fun "fact": A friend whose friend works higher up at Riot Fest said that the two days after they announced their return to Douglass Park were the two best days for ticket sales in the history of the fest.

Someone at the fest told me yesterday that next year is the 20th anniversary, so I hope they're at Douglass Park next year

Always feels like this fest is teetering on the edge of some kind of disaster and they miraculously pull it off. Good weekend. Big takeaways for me:
- riot land is dumb as fuck, and I miss having that stage right there - for the love of god they need a water station by the main stages - it never really felt empty but it never felt super full, except maybe for a bit last night - sound was better than pretty much any other year I’ve been, glad they finally have that shit solved - Pavement is one of the greatest American rock bands
Nice seeing so many of you!

- riot land is dumb as fuck, and I miss having that stage right there - for the love of god they need a water station by the main stages 100% on both of these. i don't mind rise/radical being next to each other, but that stage in the back corner was a good chillout spot and actually had some shade. and it's always been extremely dumb to have food and water on opposite sides of the park. i get it in the sense that you are forced to buy drinks from the food vendors. but my friend's girlfriend went for a water run when we were at the nofx stage and she was gone for at least half of D4's set. that could've been 5 minutes.

I had a very good time Friday and Saturday. Bummed I couldn't go yesterday but I was an allergy monster and couldn't breathe.
I thought Spoon>St. Vincent>Pavement>Beck was genuinely elite on Saturday. Basically as good as a 4+ hour run at a fest could be with the back to back sets at adjacent stages. That Hives set was super fun too earlier in the day.
I assume we get a Green Day American Idiot headliner set next year for the 20th anniversary?
