I voted for Joy Division but I really haven't dived into New Order's catalog enough.

I just don't know if either of these bands exist, or are actually just t-shirts.

easily JD but it's not really fair cause NO wouldn't exist without JD.
Joy Division vs Buzzcocks woulda been fitting

New Order was huge when I was a teen, and helped me get into dance-y/alternative stuff back then, so I would have to pick them.

Joy Division never did much for me. Maybe it was too brooding, idk, I like that New Order took that darkness and translated it through music that I actually feel like listening to. That being said, "Atmosphere" is a colossally good track. New Order's 80s singles are just too good to not give the edge to them.

Joy Division is top 10 band for me. Entire catalog is immaculate. Unknown Pleasures, Closer, and Substance should all be required listening. JD's basically unfuckwithable in my book.
New Order has some great stuff (80s) and some really bad stuff (everything after 2000)

I hate bizarre love triangle almost as much as I hate donna summer, but I voted for new order anyway, because joy division is worse. the buzzcocks, on the other hand are especially great in concert (don't have any of their albums, but have seen them close up at metro twice, in 1996 and within 7 yrs after that).

40 years ago today, Joy Division made their live debut at Pips Disco in Manchester, England.

Joy Division have two GOAT albums and that’s it.
New Order have numerous mediocre/inessential ones

Voted JD just because Bernie is still touring New Order without Hookie.
JD inspired a lot of bad knock-off bands, but most pale in comparison to how many bad Blue Monday covers have been produced.

The Strokes somewhat, I feel like Nico was definitely influenced by Hooky (but who isn't in Indie bands?)

I expected it to be somewhat close but definitely thought New Order would end up on top. really? i'm pretty sure joy division is way more popular/beloved in general than new order. i figured it would be close since there are lots of dancey/new wave fans here, still assumed jd would be on top tho.
