My SIL's sister can't have dairy, so I snuck it on the charcuterie plate and no one was the wiser. Now they request it.

We are hosting again after a year off. Not a huge turkey household so here is our approximate menu:
-I am purchasing an uncured ham from the butcher and curing/smoking it myself. I did this for Easter and it turned out great, and I no longer want to eat ham any other way
- sweet potato casserole
-homemade biscuits (probably the recipe from the Claire Saffitz book)
- scalloped potatoes
- carrot apple slaw (I believe this is a pioneer woman recipe)
- crispy cast iron asparagus situation that we’ve made a few times with no real recipe that always turns out great
I am excited. I love cooking and hosting

I have been making the Claire Saffitz salted caramel ice cream and let me tell you it's a real winner. Maybe will make a batch to go with pie.

A friend of mine wants to host, but he also invites literally everyone he knows and his place may end up having about 75 people who are still in town. Kind of want to do our own thing now.
Anyway, I'm big on scalloped potatoes and having a large variety of cheese for apps purposes, but otherwise I'm kind of up in the air about Thanksgiving dishes. I'm thrown off by the ham and pickle thing since I did not know that was a thing.
My dad used to be big on cream cheese and jalapeno jam on crackers. Come to think of it we were much more of an appetizer family growing up.

I may try to use the Egg again this year if we do end up sticking around our house. Also told the kids that they could each choose a dish, and now I need to find a really good mac n' cheese recipe.

We generally bake a tray of spanakopita to bring wherever we’re going and it usually goes over well. The dough is a bitch to get right but it’s worth it when it comes out.

The best pigs in blankets I’ve ever made involved making your own dough (pretty easy tbh), rolling up full size glizzys, then cutting them into fourths. The cocktail wieners are always low-quality - using full size makes a huge difference.

A great Thanksgiving cocktail is Autumn in New England:
• Muddle 2-4 sage leaves with 1/4 oz maple syrup for about 30 seconds in a cocktail shaker • Add: 2 oz bourbon | 1 oz apple cider | 1/4 oz cider vinegar • Fill shaker with ice, and shake for five seconds to chill • Double strain into a rocks glass w/ one big cube • Garnish with a sage sprig

These look awesome holy shit I feel like the dipping sauce should just be this though (or a homemade approximation of it, no mayo)

At least the recipe isn't calling for raw onions.

What are you all cooking today?
I'm hoping to sneak in the cranberry sauce and pie(s) - Claire Saffitz caramel apple, maybe a pumpkin with gingersnap crust if I have time.
