I'm very privileged to not have any experience with being in trouble with the law. However, why would you immediately continue participating in a similar arena of fraudulent behavior that you were before? Seems like a very bad idea.

Chicago taps Elon Musk’s Boring Company to build high-speed transit tunnels that would tie Loop with O'Hare
Under the proposal, passengers would be able to travel from the Loop to O’Hare in just 12 minutes at an estimated cost of $20 to $25 per ride. A final route for the high-speed tunnels is still subject to negotiations, and a Boring official and Deputy Mayor Robert Rivkin declined to identify where it might run.
Boring’s preferred preliminary route, however, would follow Randolph Street west from Block 37 and then run under the Kennedy Expressway northwest before tracking north under Halsted Street and northwest under Milwaukee Avenue. The tunnels then would run northwest under Elston Avenue near Goose Island before again crossing under the Kennedy Expressway near Bryn Mawr Avenue and heading west to O’Hare, according to a source familiar with the plans who was not authorized to speak publicly.

jesus. i'd be laughing way harder if it wasn't for the fact that i know the city's dumb enough to try it and waste half a billion dollars on it for 6 months and then abandon it.

According to the Tribune article the city isn't paying for it, Boring is in exchange for being able to keep all revenue associated with it once it's done.

it's supposedly going to be entirely privately funded, which i assume means it will be abandoned 1/10th of the way through once it is clear the project is much more expensive than initial estimates / the company doesn't know what it's doing

just kidding, it means the city will rush in to subsidize it the moment musk says it's not feasible without public funds

yeah at best this thing takes twice as long than estimated because the city doesnt cooperate with Boring with regards to underground utility information or coordinating construction efforts (especially anywhere where they think they're going under the cta tracks, sewer mains, freight tunnels, and access waterways) which means twice as expensive.
but more than likely Boring pulls a Google Fiber and realizes how insanely difficult it is to build anything in this city, both physically and legally, and pull the plug early.
also i just think it's dumb that we think we need a 20 minute ride to OHare for $30 when the blue line ride from downtown to ohare is only about 40 minutes and costs $2.50

yeah, above all it's just...who is this marketed toward. who is this serving. who is the mystical person who won't stoop to taking the blue line, but also won't just take an uber or a cab directly from the airport to their actual hotel instead of a random spot in the loop

I'm seeing a high potential for a "I got a Boring job and all I got was this shirt" opportunity

I think it's geared toward people like me who are situationally cheap and always about 20 minutes late

idk why you guys are complaining. indy just spent $100M on a bus that's taking 2 years to build and removing half of the existing travel lanes on the busiest street into the city to accommodate the bus.

This could be a cool idea in a city that doesn't have public transit already built. Or hell, use the money to improve Chicago's existing rail lines. The Blue Line could sure as hell use it.

Imagine being so scared of poor people you ask for your labor rights violation daddy to come in and build transit for you. Won’t somebody think of the rich people??

My boss won't ride the train because of the homeless. He's actually said this out loud. He drives in to downtown from Highland Park every day and pays for parking.
He would get a Boring hard-on.

If funding never improves at a government level I'm not sure that's something Chicago is going to be able to avoid.

This project is all privately funded so that would mean privatizing the CTA at this point im completely fine with CTA being privatized and immediately being bought out by Musk or whoever for a massive overhaul because the city has 0 interest in finding the finances to help maintain or improve it.
