1. It’s years old news that the Dilbert dude is a nutcase conservative. Idk how people could be interested in the guy and not know this by now.
2 who reads Dilbert in 2018?

I feel like i have a brain injury. Its not like its a fiction book by a problematic author. Its a nonfiction self help book by an avowed alt-right hero. you took it as a personal attack rather than being like "hey maybe shouldn't buy in to hard on what that guy has to say" Scott Adams is self described as "ultraliberal", and gives examples of his political beliefs to back that up in his book, but you wouldn't get that from reading Vox articles. I didn't take anything as a personal attack, but several posted inaccurate statements (like the one I just addressed), and I felt necessary to point that out.

Again, I have no real argument against anything that's being posted here, I personally didn't know anything about this and wouldn't be interested in his stuff knowing what I know. I'm not trying to defend anything but the conversation. Literally the first thing I googled was "scott adams problematic" and there were swaths of articles about how shitty the guy is, but mostly about his politics, misogyny, etc. The conversation was like 5 minutes old. I don't see a problem asking someone to just post a link to what they're talking about on a forum as opposed to the "you can google this all yourself!!!" attitude bosma posted tweets tho!!!!! there was evidence stated and the reaction wasn't one of acknowledgment but of denial yes!! and i read the tweets and several articles in my google search and was disgusted!!! and wanted rango to participate in this with more information!

what is even the point of posting info if pale hose is just gonna say that "no he's actually an ultraliberal, it says so right in the book" lol it is resourceful and helps me (or anyone?) see this from perhaps the same perspective being discussed, if there are specific things hes referring to. rango is obviously not wrong.

Steve Jobs is responsible for like 100+ suicides in his human slavery factories which is probably directly worse than just being an alt-right troll ok yeah this is bad. an exaggeration from what a brief google search tells me, but bad.

My comment was in defense of Pale Hose, who is one of the most even keeled posters around. It definitely was not in defense of Scott Adams. I have never read a Scott Adams book and know very little about him or his political views. Dilbert sucks and always did suck.
PH made a really benign comment about reading a book and basically got told he shouldn't be reading it. Which is just wild to me.

This is a good book! Kind of getting tired of the switching timelines or perspectives by chapter routine, but it's actually done well here. i just added this to my reading list on goodreads!! glad to know it's good also i hope your goodreads isn't up to date because according to it you've only read books by white men which is hilarious given your posts in here

absolutely read whatever you want and absolutely go in with a healthy dose of skepticism when reading the sort of logic that led a guy to conclude that a certain variety of sweaters have ruined men

Thank you for this! do you have any favorites from the list? hitting the library after work. Just skimming the top bit, I loved Americanah. Skimming more- James Baldwin, Alison Bechdel (read up on the Bechdel test if you're not already familiar), Ta-Nehisi Coates of course, Sandra Cisneros, Roxane Gay, Tayari Jones, Jesmyn Ward (!!!) I'd add Zadie Smith, Isabel Allende, Laura Esquivel, Lorrie Moore, Jennifer Egan, and Samantha Irby.
