this was like really bad. Douchey guy at my office who’s obsessed with six sigma training and brags about his mba from a not very impressive school keeps this book in his desk in his top drawer. Constantly pulls it out and waives it around and with no prompting just stops random people and yells at them like “HEY YOU SHOULD READ THIS BOOK ITS REALLY GOOD!!”

Also that book is from 2007 and has an entire chapter devoted to Kanye's "George Bush doesn't care about black people" comment. Talk about a blast from the past

images.app.goo.gl/Zqdeiw6sCsu7cBae9The prior book in the series, How to Build A Girl, has been made into a movie starring Beanie Feldstein, who I adore. This one was good, part fluffy breezy rock memoir, part boozy feminist rant with an unexpected revenge porn storyline. V enjoyable. *edit* lol I'll fix the image link later, it's How to be Famous by Caitlin Moran

This same dude also loudly groans and complains about his business school debt as an excuse to try and brag that he has an MBA (that our company mostly paid for). Goes into break room, cracks open a LaCroix, looks around at the few people eating lunch, “MAAAAANNNN I JUST HAD TO PAY MY STUDENT LOAN AND I FEEL BROKE, IT SUCKS BUT I EARNED AN MBA”

Yeah the book is essentially "man up snowflake, life is tough, embrace it" which totally caters to those types of people.

the author also like constantly tries to humble brag about the amount of girls he's slept with

this was like really bad. Memories of when people got mad because it was pointed out that Dilbert guy is a white supremecist. This one is also in the ‘disturbing books to see in public’ camp

at least I hated it! I was leaving work for a 5 hour drive and needed an audiobook to listen to and it kept popping up as like "best of" and I couldn't think of anything else so I went with it.

Emma and I went to Open Books in West Loop at the end of our weekend Chicago trip. Big recommendation for those of y'all who haven't been there - loads of selection and nearly everything is priced between $4 to $8. Got a few for like a dollar this time too. Anyway, these are the books I picked up, ended up spending like $25 total? - Edith Wharton - Ethan Frome
- Willa Cather - O Pioneers!
- Philip Roth - American Pastoral
- Gabriel Garcia Marquez - Love In The Time Of Cholera
- Carrie Brownstein - Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl
- I'll Take You There: Mavis Staples, The Staple Singers, and the March Up Freedom's Highway (Greg Kot)
- I'll Sleep When I'm Dead: The Life and Times Of Warren Zevon (Crystal Zevon)
Excited to get goin' on these!

Lime Works by Thomas Bernhard. It's fun and weird but also kind of daunting because of the lack of breaks. At least it's pretty short.

Trying to get back into the classics b/c there's not a lot I want to read out there currently. Currently on Thomas Mann's Death in Venice.

Gonna try and finish Baldwin’s “Giovanni’s room” in the next week. Put it down a year ago and never picked it back up

What do people use for audio books in their car? I'm tired of listening to the radio and figure I should give listening to books a try. I'm too cheap for an audible membership but I do have prime and a library card if that'll help.

there's actually a surprising ton of classics in good quality for free on youtube and spotify if you just search "audibooks" or the title of said book.

I'm pretty sure the CPL has an app for audiobooks? Looks like this might be my solution. Need to clear some space on my phone because right now I don't think I could download a short story.

I read eight books between our flights and drives which is more books than I've read in the past three years?

I finished this recently. Like a lot of people, I got into him after Play came out. I ended up seeing him live 4 times back in the day, and would go on his website frequently, for the forums and his journal entries. I always kind of figured he was a straight edge dude b/c he was a vegan, but MAN, I had no idea he was drinking so much, and taking pills, crystal meth, and (eventually) cocaine. It's a pretty entertaining read, he doesn't hold a lot back. I'm glad he's doing better now.

I'm reading Mr. Bridge right now (read Mrs. Bridge last year). Also picked up Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney over the weekend.

Just being annoying again about our signing tomorrow afternoon. I haven't read the book yet, but I plan on asking him if he's seen the Chris Delia podcast where he's making fun of R Kelly's "come to America" song http://instagram.com/p/B0Y9YaIAm3m

This was ok. I'm sure McKellen and Mirren are going to be great in the upcoming film adaptation.
