Finally had a chance to go to the movies last night. We saw Guardians. I really enjoyed it and thought it was on par with the first one. It cracked me up, but I felt like we were the only ones laughing through a lot of it.

I love Craig as Bond but the end of Spectre seemed like a great cap for his character, setting up for another 'soft reboot' or whatever. I'm nervous they won't have the imagination to do anything but have Lea Seydoux die within the first ten minutes in order to get 007 back in action.

Also I saw Okja last night. All my friends hated it viscerally and I thought it was very dumb but hilarious. I could've watched twice as much Jake Gyllenhaal plus the kid/Okja scenes and been happy. All the heavy-handed, clunky, terrible Monsento Tilda Swinton material should've been re-written.

Also, The Big Sick is finally expanding this weekend, and I need to see it a soon as possible.

I really want to see A Ghost Story, but it doesn't appear to be showing in Denver yet.

Ghost Story was at my local theater this past week but if course now that I'm free to go it appears there are no more showings... Weak.

Barnes and Noble is doing their regular 50% off the Criterion Collection. Sweet. Need to get Ghost World (one of my favorite movies of all time).

where can i get these half off showings 42nd and 9th AMC. While it's in Times Square, usually the half-price showings attract a local crowd and aren't too crowded once a movie is a week or so in. Have only had two truly bad experiences with it out of probably 15. That said, probably a long way for you to travel for a film. I live three blocks away which makes it convenient.

I tried to watch Spawn, from the 90s. Hadn't seen it since I was a kid. What an abomination.

Yeah that Spiderman was actually really good. Surprisingly so. In a weird twist, everything BUT the action sequences are perfect. Keaton-as-Vulture is great but I feel like they didn't know exactly how to stage fight scenes with him... I kinda disagree. I was pretty skeptical of the hoverjet costume, but thought the animators did a really great job recreating Vulture's attack poses and whatnot from the old comics. It was Spidey vs. Vulture just like the olden days, imho. That said, I'm pretty sure every movie needs moar Michael Keaton. He's fantastic.

I think I phrased my criticism poorly. Vulture looked great and moved well, but I guess I didn't think the set pieces themselves were anything special or elaborate.
- When Spiderman stops Vulture from robbing that first truck they don't interact at all. - They briefly fight on the ferry but it's mainly Vulture hovering and Spiderman shooting webs - kind of a boring back and forth - The final battle on the plane had cool moments but I felt Vulture's suit malfunctioning was a weak way to end it.

Valid criticisms. I did LOVE the movie, but something about it seemed to fall a wee bit short of expectations and those are probably factors.

Whewwwwwwwwwwwww, Baby Driver is the best film I've seen in a minute.
Between it, John Wick 2 and Kingsman 2 (no way that'll be anything but great), 2017 is an incredible year for stylized action flicks.

Apparently the premise is they're all stuck on an elevator in one of the towers together.

That's generous of them to include him in the SAG Best Cast nomination for Being John Malkovich.
