Do they still show all the shortlist ones as well? I haven’t been in like 8-10 years but the year I went they showed the 5 nominees and then a bunch of the shortlist ones

Do they still show all the shortlist ones as well? I haven’t been in like 8-10 years but the year I went they showed the 5 nominees and then a bunch of the shortlist ones I remember that too, but this time they just showed two extra ones. One was like 15 minutes and one was just a few minutes long.

We have early screening tickets for Dune 2 this weekend, too, because it’s tied to the Tenet reissue. Hyped to see Tenet in the theater, but Dune 1 was such a snoozefest, we’re probably skipping Dune 2. Not to mention I don’t think I can rot in the theater for five-plus hours.

Seeing Tenet on Friday. Nolan's best imo.

Tenet hit so hard last night. Really is the coolest movie. By far the most imaginative set pieces Nolan has ever put together. The score is unbelievable. I'd have maybe mixed the dialogue a bit higher for two scenes in particular but the people who said you couldn't hear the dialogue for most of the movie are idiots. I looked up the Oscars that year and it's Nomadland? Insane.

Dune 2 absolutely ruled and should be seen on the biggest screen possible
Walked out of it absolutely giddy, don't feel that way too often after a movie nowadays

i also saw Dune 2 over the weekend and very much enjoyed it. i expect any movie of that length to have a few lulls, but i didn't think that was the case at all.

I'm through 7/10 of the best pic noms and I haven't seen a dud yet. Even if I don't like any of the last three, 2023 was a great year for film.

Problemista was fantastic. Might not be for everybody since Julio Torres is such a strange dude, but I thought it was genuinely hilarious and quite moving at several parts.

I got through everything except Maestro, and enjoyed them all. Even though it was too long, Killers of the Flower Moon was probably the best of the bunch - but it was close. I assume Oppenheimer will win. 2023 was a great year for film.

We watched Downsizing after the Oscars and really liked it. Perfect concept to adapt into a TV show if it didn't completely bomb

A New Leaf was recommended to me a while back on a list of black comedies. i knew it likely wouldn't be too dark because of the codes of the era it was made in. but it's pretty funny. i could definitely see it being remade today as a straight romcom or an actual black comedy.

I watched You'll Never Find Me on Shudder last night and didn't love it. It pulls off what it was going for, which is this foreboding vibe of lurking danger at all times, it just wasn't really for me I think. Interested in what others thought of it.
Lisa Frankenstein is great, though. Just a really, really sweet film. Might watch it again tonight.
