The Shape of Water was fantastic. Can't stop thinking about it.

I enjoyed iTonya but the glib talking head segments brought it down for me. I agree with reviews calling it Scorsese-lite but as heavy-handed as his movie's can be I don't remember Leo's Wolf of Wall Street ever directly looking into camera and going, 'America ya know!'

Really lame that Rockwell won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting actor. Dafoe was robbed.

3 Billboards cleaning up was a fun surprise. I don't think I've ever seen a movie winning awards like that while it was still in theatres.
Probably will go see Shape of Water or Lady Bird this week, most likely the former

Yes. Both are good. The Shape of Water is better.

I saw Florida Project yesterday. I thought it was well done, but it also felt like an American director's blatant attempt to imitate British realism, and I feel like I've seen a lot of those types of films lately.
Personally, I've much preferred Andrea Arnold's films (Fish Tank, American Honey, etc.) as examples of that genre/style.

Shape of Water was gorgeous and very well done. couldnt believe it was getting so much award talk at first (i love del toro but he's not exactly oscar material usually) but it's definitely merited.
also didnt realize it was gonna be that adult compared to his other films but im not mad about it.

I really liked Shape of Water, but I thought the development of their relationship was really rushed. I didn't get a real sense of how long that time period was from first meeting to, well, you know...
Arrival, for example, did a much better job of pacing out that process of learning a new word or two during each meeting, etc. Otherwise, I loved Shape of Water. Michael Shannon was the most Michael Shannon he has ever been.

Michael Shannon was basically an extension of the character he played in Boardwalk Empire.

I thought their relationship was built fairly well. I am not sure the exact amount of time that passed but she taught him fluent ASL and was also very primed to fall in love with him for the reasons she explicitly tells Richard Jenkins.

the full schedule for the ingmar bergman centennial retrospective at film forum in new york is up. it is epic. here's hoping most of these tour to chicago. filmforum.org/series/ingmar-bergman-centennial-retrospective-seriessummer with monika on 35mm would be especially awesome, along with the handful of films screening on both DCP and 35mm.

Holy fucking shit. This is overwhelming. Getting a Blu Ray of all three silence of God films is my dream. Also the idea of actually being able to enjoy After the Rehearsal instead of strain to see a shitty VHS copy sounds awesome. Maybe some English subtitle updates as well. Smiles of a Summer night is the perfect Valentine’s Day film, btw. This is great.

Should I go tomorrow to see Darkest Hour, Molly's Game, All the Money in the World, or just hang out with a friend and laugh as he dies in Dark Souls?

the last one is always a good time. buuuuuuuuuuuut i'd really like to see Gary Oldman as Churchill, so...
also i watched A Cure for Wellness last night. admired the ambition and it had some gorgeous shots but ultimately the plot was pretty damn flimsy and i didn't really care about any characters (the guy was better in this than in Valarian at least.)
but also Jason Isaacs is the best bad guy so that's a plus.

I saw The Disaster Artist last night and it was pretty good I think? Like I laughed a lot but mostly because it was jokes I thought were funny from The Room. There were a few really great scenes outside of them filming the movie but for the most part it felt a little bland or maybe expected? I don’t know, it wasn’t a bad movie and I had fun watching it and I should probably not overthink it but I don’t envision myself seeing this movie over and over.

Moviepass is starting to do surveys. If it means that I can continue to go to as many movies as I want for 9.99 a month, I will fill out as many surveys as they throw at me

Basically asking reasons why I watched I, Tonya and if using Moviepass was the reason I went. Pretty short and simple. Also, even though it got messed up (really?~), both my wife and I were finally changed to the yearly subscription.

Nothing about why there seems to be a concentration of abuses in and around Columbus, OH?

Nothing about why there seems to be a concentration of abuses in and around Columbus, OH? Is that about people using Moviepass to get gas money and concessions? If so, no.

Yeah I got the I, Tonya one. I'd had a similar survey before that'd asked similar questions but not about a specific movie. I'm assuming MoviePass is trying to make money selling user data to theaters and studios?
Also they joke because I treat my Pass like garbage and do shit like validate my parking and put two tickets on it at once.

Should I go tomorrow to see Darkest Hour, Molly's Game, All the Money in the World, or just hang out with a friend and laugh as he dies in Dark Souls? If you like Sorkin you'll like Molly's Game. I agree with rango it is pretty good except for the last ten-fifteen minutes. Even with MoviePass it is hard for me to raise excitement at seeing Darkest Hour or ATMITW. Ridley Scott has been on a cool streak for the longest time and DH looks like a bland film built only to showcase Gary Old Man
