she was in the village in new york city. there's one extremely popular school there that kids across the country dream of going to new york to attend.

We saw Lady Bird over the weekend and while I thought it was a good film with great writing and acting, it didn't rise to the level of "award-winning" for me. I also thought the narratives for the two boyfriend characters were stereotypical and predictable. Despite the quibbles, I enjoyed it overall. This is basically how I feel. A lot of my real-life friends - my gf included - love it solelt because of how relatable it was for them. I just might not be the intended audience, and that is fine, I'm not going to dictate what movies can or should speak to who. However, I am looking at the 'relatable' aspects of Lady Bird and then failing to see how it ascends them, or digs into them or expresses something new about them. Thank you for realizing this instead of just saying it's a shit film

You mean I can’t claim my opinion as gospel to feel better than other people? What is this world coming to.

In less serious cinema, I went to see Jumanji with the wife today and we both really enjoyed it. Why in the world wasn't this a "summer" movie?

I think the studio had little faith in it since it was a sequel to a kids movie from the 90s. It's going really well right now which is great, I enjoyed it a lot.

i also watched Darkest Hour over the weekend and yeah the whole movie itself is kinda useless but Oldman's performance alone is tremendous and probably deserves any and all awards.
dont need to see it again but would appreciate Oldman just doing a bunch of interviews in character forever.

One of the better months for Criterion I've seen in a while. Great covers too. Excited to finally see a nice copy of Color of Pomegranates

Haven't seen it but I always have a soft spot for below average movies with tremendous performances. I think Charlize Theron in Monster tops my list.

I think Lincoln falls into that category as well.

The Awful Truth is the only release this month I haven't seen, so maybe I should get on that.

Best of 2018 List 1. Paddington 2 2. The CommuterI saw The Commuter today. It was okay but my expectations were pretty low. The plot twists and the "who" were really easy to figure out. Still, stupid fun. I really only saw it because of Moviepass. I'm guessing this is only the second movie you've seen this year so far?

Yeah i'll keep the ranking ongoing. I thought it was really good but it used alot of the same screenwriting tricks as the last few Nielson/Director guy movies. The train set was fantastic and it was really well directed but I wish they played with expectations differently.

I had to park by my usual theatre to meet friends for dinner and tried to get the theatre to validate my parking and the employee told me they could only do it for moviegoers. So I said oh okay and checked into Molly's Game right in front of her. #ThanksMoviePass!

This looks fucking wild and disgusting QUICK CONTENT WARNING IF YOU DON'T LIKE BUGS AND VOMIT DON'T WATCH THIS SHIT.
My friend backed an assload of money to the kickstarter and is flying to Prague for the red carpet premiere next month. Pretty cool that Svankmajer knows that it's time to stop making movies before they start getting awful. Hope we see a lot of his stop motion techniques transferred to live action like in Conspirators of Pleasure

Three Billboards is honestly one of the most nonsensical films I’ve ever watched.
