I ate at a deli in little Italy back when my sister lived in San Diego and I’ve been chasing that food experience ever since

I like that we can tell this thread is really close to lunch time for a lot of people and also that the day the Oscar nominees come out we talk about food for two pages in the movie thread.

Taylor Gourmet just opened their first Chicago location right around the corner from my office. I tried the "9th" yesterday, it was solid. They gave me a bunch of coupons too so I might go back and check out one of their cheese steaks today.

I watched Coco last night. Visually it was mesmerizing, and the story wasn't terrible, but I got pretty bored with it.

Hell yeah Little Saigon is so goddamned good. I live like 100 feet from Ba Le but have started walking the extra four blocks to Little Saigon cause it's way better.

If I lived that close to Ba Le, I'd probably be eating there at least three times a week.

I'm getting jealous of all the Vietnamese food talk, all of the Vietnamese joints in Columbus range from suck to ok.

I just went back and read the previous page. When it comes to subs, my faves are DiBella's and Mr. Goodcents, neither of which are even in Illinois. Also, I'm not sure I understand thinking JJ's is worse than Subway. And that reminds me: has JJ's changed their bread recipe? Seems like it's not as good anymore.

I showed my Film Study students the trailers for every Best Picture nominee and had everybody rank them to see what we're going to analyze for our next unit.
Three Billboards and Get Out were by far the runaway favorites. The Shape of Water, Dunkirk, and Lady Bird were all tied for third.
Call Me By Your Name got zero votes.

i still havent seen the movie (want to) but the trailer for call me by your name is not very good. yeah it's not an enticing premise or trailer by itself. you kinda have to take it on the critic's word and/or hype about the casting to really want check it out. no way i would've been interested in my early years of film study.

In my early years of film study, I'm sure I would have liked Call Me By Your Name because so many other people do. How I wish Pauline Kael were around to enlighten us. #paulettesforever
