Yeah there's definitely some inconsistencies with this one. I think it's a fun movie and I'd watch it again but it's not my favorite. Larson was great, story just kinda lacks in places.

I get your point, but something to convey how powerful she is would have been nice. eh i kinda think of it as the same thing with Scarlet Witch, Vision, or Doctor Strange's time spells -- they all revolve around being born from the 6 most powerful things in the universe so they kinda get do whatever the writers can think of it that fit the battles in that movie  (not a defense, just that the suspension of disbelief at this point, for me, is like "sure why not") |

SPOILERS!
I am going to see it tomorrow night. I watched Thor 1 and Iron Man 3 yesterday. If it's better than those two stinkers, I'm sure I will enjoy it quite a bit.
I'm not done with superhero movies until I've seen Endgame and then I'll re-evaluate. Too committed to this multi-movie narrative to give up now.

Yeah I'll chime in and back that up too, it's so damn good. I really like that last Thor but Winter Soldier is just a little better.

My hot take is that Winter Soldier is the only 100% competent MCU film - I would recommend it to people who don’t even love superhero movies. Definitely agreed on that. It functions more like a classic espionage movie, so its more grounded in reality than the rest. It raised the bar imo, and while I've enjoyed a lot of the films since, I still go back to Winter Soldier. |

ragnarok, black panther and avengers 1 are the only ones i would recommend to non mcu people

Winter Soldier is the best cap movie, for sure. It also has perhaps my favorite villain scene (the one involving antiquated computer tech). It's not even in my top 3, though.   |

winter soldier is..... not good ragnarok, black panther and avengers 1 are the only ones i would recommend to non mcu people Winter soldier is bad, and it’s also a sequel to the worst MCU film so if you’re really trying to show someone who isn’t a superhero fan it’s not gonna go over well. I haven’t seen ragnarok, thought black panther was decent, and do not like avengers 1, but agree with your takes on the last two for sure. I’d also put out there that I thought ant man was really fun and totally worth seeing as a non-superhero fan. |

Yeah the first Captain American was fine - I think this is the first time I've seen someone actively hate on it. Red Skull was a good villain. most of the phase 1 stuff is generally disliked now either because it's seen as too basic or the visuals don't hold up compared to their sequels. it's fine i just think it's too long. also hating on Winter Soldier is by far the weirdest hot take. it's generally considered (to irving and timbo's point) the smartest and least "superhero-y" MCU movie. |

I might hate it because people keep referring to it as a “political thriller” which makes me want to lose my fucking mind. i think Timbo said it's pratically an espionage movie which i'd say is fair you just kinda need to see the first Capt to follow some of the SHIELD and Bucky backstory but otherwise on its own Winter Soldier can basically be a more fun Bourne ripoff |
