I'm planning an NYC trip with some friends in early November. Just wanted to see if you guys had any recommendations for good neighborhoods in Brooklyn to target for a place. I'm leaning Greenpoint right now because it worked out so well last year - seems like a good base, but we had some transportation issues. Do you have a sense of where you want to visit during this trip? That would help narrow down some neighborhoods. If I remember correctly, you stayed near the G train, but it happened to be a weekend when they were doing work on that line and several of the stations in that area didn't have service. The MTA publishes FASTRACK maintenance schedules well in advance (work being done on weekday overnights), but the work schedule every weekend is typically both widespread and unpredictable. Which is to say it's luck of the draw whether you have subway service on the weekend in your area. For what it's worth, we've had G train service every weekend this year (knock on wood). I think Greenpoint is still a good bet, especially since you liked it there. (Plus you can take the G directly to Ol' Doso's 'hood). |

We'd primarily be in Manhattan/Brooklyn - no specifics beyond that. I just know everyone in our group wants to stay in Brooklyn, but no one is really offering up neighborhoods. Trying to get a jump on an Airbnb before prices get too crazy.

Eh, life, haha
Moved down for a full time gig and due to company changes that no longer exists, still will be working for my job but freelance based again. And if that's the case, I don't see why I need to live down here year round, and it's not like I actually wanted to leave NY in the first place so might as well go back. (plus it's easier for me to find other quality freelance gigs up there).

Never been - will have to check that place out. If you want to try something different next time, my go-to in the area is Double Windsor. Great craft beer selection and a small kitchen with a limited menu cranking out very good food. How was R+R? I almost went to that with the stepsons but they wanted to chill at home and I was pretty tipsy after brewery-hopping with out-of-town friends all afternoon. |

Just saw this! R+R were excellent - found a chill spot in the park to dance, when they hit their groove, they were excellent. I adore Christian Scott so he was a highlight for sure.
Dumb question - has anyone actually tried to go to one of the Good Morning America free shows at Central Park? I have tickets reserved for Florence and the Machine at 7:00am tomorrow, and am wondering whether if anyone has gone / has heard of someone who went to one. Would be a dope show to catch for free if it's more than like 2 songs, and I am juuust young and dumb enough to attempt this then immediately go to work...

I'm going to be in the city that week for work and I'm thinking about it though prices are holding me back a bit because I'm seeing them twice in Chicago. But also I'd get to knock seeing a show at Madison Square Garden off the bucket list
