When I got the 1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book for christmas one year, I was stunned at how many Dexys albums were in there, and how vocal the writers were about them being such a talented band beyond that stupid throwaway song.
But I still never listened to 'em.

Searching for the Young Soul Rebels is legit. even some of its b-sides (i love their "breaking down the walls of heartache" cover) are really good. the albums after that are a mixed bag.

What's with all these bands hitting Chicago during March Madness? Don't make me choose.

i'm shocked at the amount of time between dates on some recently announced tours. It looks like Mitski is over slumming it in a tour bus. That's a plane tour if I've ever seen one.

Multiple people have told me Slowdive is a TikTok band now, which is…. something This would explain why they sold out the Riv. I think the last time I saw them in Chicago at the Vic that show wasn't even sold out.

2 nights at auditorium seems ambitious but what do I know Looks like there are 7500 or so people in the queue for the pre-sale for each show and she just added two more NYC shows. Seems like this is going to sell a ton of tickets

Multiple people have told me Slowdive is a TikTok band now, which is…. something Nick told me that, according to the Spotify artist app, around 70% of their listeners are below 35. They've been really loving that so many younger people are at the shows on this tour. A lot of my students know who Slowdive is, which is kind of crazy to me. I know a bunch of them who were at the show last night, and one of them got to meet Nick. There's also a viral TikTok in which he's interviewed by Vice and talks about the influence TikTok has had on their popularity. For some reason, so many people watch the TikTok interview and think his daughter, Lucie, never knew he was in a band or didn't know who Slowdive was. She knew he was in a band. I've been to festivals with her and we talk about the band around her. She just never realized that lots of people actually liked his band. He's just always been "Dad" to her. I don't remember which festival it was that Slowdive was playing, but Lucie was far more interested and impressed that Dua Lipa was going to be there. More recently, though, she's been learning that a lot of people actually know who her dad's band is and really like them. Aside from seeing their songs on TikTok, the kids at school would talk about Slowdive. I told Nick the other day, "Maybe now Lucie can begin to understand why her dad is playing at the same festival as Dua Lipa." (BTW, if you come across the TikTok and look over the comments, you'll see Lucie there.) It's crazy, but it's really cool.

Incidentally, I didn't know Slowdive was TikTok famous until saw a recent tweet by a writer I follow (who's also a teacher) mentioning they're one of the main artists his kids talk about in class. Honestly fascinating to me seeing older acts like them and Duster elevated to massive levels of popularity lately.
