(in cranky old man voice) i remember back in the day when we had to wait in line overnight at an outlet and just hope they had good seats and that some other outlet across town had the junk ones. it was so random and unless you knew someone that worked there and could tell you the night before what they had, you were just rolling the dice... Oh man, THAT is old school. By the time I started camping out for concert tickets in the mid-'80s, all the outlets were computerized and pulling from a central database. Probably the best I ever did in that game was fourth row for Peter Gabriel on the So tour ($20 tickets) and eighth row for Dylan/Petty ($17.50).

I do not miss this whatsoever. Also, trying to call TM right at 10am on Saturday morning and constantly getting the busy signal until you finally get through at 10:37 and the event is sold out. haha. yeah, me either. at that stage in my young life, though, i was just happy to get in to shows. but at least there was usually someone at the outlet that had a list and you knew if you were getting tix or not by how many people in front of you and how many they were getting.

Trying to get tickets on the phone was the worst. That was truly last resort. the best strategy for tickets over the phone was to call a different area's ticketmaster at 9:57 a.m., keep them on the line asking about random shows ("u2 got any upcoming shows? no? oh... ok...") and then right at 10am ask for tickets to the show you wanted.

That was truly last resort. the best strategy for tickets over the phone was to call a different area's ticketmaster at 9:57 a.m., keep them on the line asking about random acts and then right at 10am ask for tickets to the show you wanted. This is brilliant. I am so mad at my 12 year old self for not figuring this out.

EXACTLY. I managed to score great seats for shows doing that. My friends and I were 7th row center for Lollapalooza '94, while everyone else I knew was stuck in the lawn. Man, now you guys have me reminiscing about the olden days, like the time Pearl Jam came to Kansas for VS and tickets were $18.50 with a $1.00 service fee. I knew some people who were pissed off at having to wait all night, so they got out of line a few hours before the tickets were on sale despite the fact that they were close enough to have definitely scored tickets. They were definitely sorry later.

I remember when Dominicks used to have Ticketmaster at almost all of their locations... You just went a few minutes before the sale, and they would do a lottery drawing to see who got tickets first. I ended up being the only one who got tickets at the location I was at for Radiohead at the Rosemont Theater, my favorite show ever, that way.

I got a verified fan presale code for Brooklyn and pulled some tickets just to see what came up for shits and giggles. Mixed bag including side stage balcony, lower bowl towards the rear and mezzanine about halfway back. $200/$150/$90/$50 pricing. Some of the $90 seats were halfway decent. Couldn't pull any $50 options. No one in our family is ga-ga over Katy Perry, so we're sitting this one out.

Bash & Pop tonight at the Bell House with Jason Loewenstein Band and Bird of Youth opening. Surprisingly solid openers - I might actually have to show up before 10:30pm.

I pulled pit tickets for the National through the Jam presale this morning, but it wouldn't let me buy them cuz I already had two tickets associated with the card.

Everyone ready to buy Katy Perry tickets in 5 minutes?? Hello? Anyone? It was way too expensive to rationalize Chicago tickets but checking later and even the fan pre-sale has not sold well so I imagine that the full sale isn't gonna be amazing either. Is she really this popular still? I hope I can grab tickets secondary market later.

wire at metro on riot fest saturday is interesting. but they have just played riot fest one of the last few years, i think. Wire has never played Riot Fest. They did play Pitchfork in 2013. That's an early show too (7:00 doors). Seems like a strange booking considering how much of their fanbase you think would crossover with Riot Fest.

They don't really have a good tour date listing for themselves but as far as I can tell the last date was going to be July 1st.

Not happy with the ticket process for these National shows. They never release anything good right away and then only allow 2 tickets per show.
In the back both nights now.
