I've got the dress khakis and black shoes on today and can confirm it works. Purple and white checked dress shirt and lightly specked solid purple tie. This is one of my favorite combos.
Not really into the smoking shoe thing, but I did get a pair of super comfy house shoes for my birthday and they rule. I think they're just Dockers or something, though. Love all the sneakers on this page, too.
Edit: Shit, I guess it's the last page now.

I often wear silly dress socks. I have a pair with dinosaurs and another pair with cheeseburgers and fries. I definitely need some NBA socks.

I feel like u are all leaving out crucial details here. There is a lot of discussion on the shorts and shoes, but if u are not describing your summer sock game the rest of the descriptions don't allow me to evaluation it. For all I know u could be pairing elastic band shorts with ankle high under armour (tm) elastisocks ankle socks are the fucking devil so as long as nobody is wearing those we good I like low ankle socks so long and you can't see them. Anything showing is pretty bad though

Ever since I got an office job a couple years ago I’ve definitely put on some weight some I’m not on my feet nearly as much. This was kinda devastating because it came after a 6 month period where I took fantastic care of myself and lost about 40 pounds. Needless to say I’ve had a hard time feeling particularly cute lately. However, I got a pair of pants that fits really well and doesn’t make me look bigger than I am, and I’m wearing one of my favorite shirts today. I feel cute. Today is a good day.

Get yourself a knit polo or two similar to this one. Still casual but a definite step up from a tee and not as boring as a button down.

Man I love Uniqlo, it was so easy to layer basics for cheap there. I miss shopping there.
Polos are not a bad idea, I haven't worn them since I was trying to impress in like jr high

I wear polos all the time, especially for work (which is totally casual for me). Super easy to throw on and look decently presentable.

Any polo shirt made of pima cotton is great to wear. If you’ve got any Bon Ton based companies (Bergner’s , herbergers, Yonkers, Carson pirie Scott) by you they’re all going out of business and should be super cheap around now

Huge fan of polos.
I kind of feel weird going anywhere that isn't a concert or dive bar or someone's house in just a t-shirt these days, maybe that's just me though.

Polos are alright.

I have lots of button-downs that are the main thing I'll try to style with if I'm going out, even to a show these days...I'm just in such a rut of only wearing those - especially to work. I can't wait to shop in winter when there's so many more options

I had to wear polos or button down shirts for 12 years because of Catholic school and have responded by making t-shirts 90% of my wardrobe. Totally fine with that. These are the only polos I tend to wear because they're super comfortable:

I'm going to try to be more fancy for the November trip to NYC. I need to pick up some stuff to make that happen. I do not enjoy shopping, though. I tend to be way too indecisive and just wander around in circles.
