I had a dream about being at a Grateful Dead show last night. I guess this is how it starts?

I like showing people The Pizza Tapes and then saying now what if this was a big band doing this kind of thing. It has a moderate success rate

And who put the Mumsons on that thing in the first place.....?? Absolutely disgusting fact I just learned: this track has 15,000,000 more plays than the second-most streamed song on the comp. Happily, the runner up is Phossy doing Sugaree

I've been doing a tour-follow of Fall 1973 since the 10/19 Dick's Picks 19 in Oklahoma City. Some incredible shows (10/30/73!!!) and finds so far. Will post a big write-up here when I'm done and hopefully will pull together a big playlist of tour highlights.

Been reading The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test and jamming some primal Dead today. 3/18/67 is a kick-ass, extremely early show. 11/10 Shrine show is famous for the Alligator sequence, but dddaaaammmnnn does this Viola Lee rip. Garcia sounds like an acid-fried Charlie Christian. Love when the band builds up to a fever pitch at the song's climax then DROP everything back into the main riff. This one isn't as smooth as Harpur College, but it's visceral as all hell

Idk how it took me so long to find out about this, but I was clued onto the Grateful Grabber chrome extension today.
Just downloaded MP3s of 15 shows from 1966-69 from the Internet Archive with it.

Anyways, I just finished reading Tom Wolfe's Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test and soundtracked most of my reading with early Dead shows. Just edited my favorites into two sequenced CDs and put them up on WeTransfer for a week, if anyone wants to grab them. Primal CD 1:1. He Was A Friend Of Mine (4/23/69) 2. Saint Stephen (8/24/68) 3. Clementine (1/26/69) 4. That’s It For The Other One (4/17/69) 5. New Potato Caboose (8/24/68) 6. Drums (10/12/68) 7. Jam (10/12/68) 8. Feedback (10/12/68) Primal CD 2:1. Cream Puff War (3/18/67) 2. Mountains of the Moon (2/22/69) 3. Dark Star (4/23/69) 4. China Cat Sunflower (2/14/68) 5. The Eleven (8/24/68) 6. Death Don’t Have No Mercy (3/18/67) 7. Viola Lee Blues (11/10/67) 8. Cosmic Charlie (2/27/69) (Songs may download in the incorrect order, as I think WeTransfer sorted them alphabetically, but the above is the intended track listing)

Been thinking about the post D&C potential that we have sitting around at this point. Would love another small run of Phil/Bobby acoustic shows. I’m not huge on the new “Wolfpack” arrangements that Bob is doing but if that’s the way to see Grateful Dead music I guess that’s what I’ll be seeing. Still have to imagine we get an amphitheater sized touring version of the band

Happy Birthday to the 11/11/73 Dark Star. No exaggeration my favorite piece of music in the entire Dead canon, perhaps the best 35-minutes of music ever put to tape.

I bought my sister Europe 72 for Christmas but record breakers had some much more expensive shows from that tour limited to 10k pressings. Kind of regret not going #rare but they basically have a record player and no records. Figured broad was best and honestly couldn't remember if I liked the two shows they had.
