That makes sense. It's even worse for Lolla in that in addition to losing the exclusivity, her Chicago UC dates got pushed to just two months before the festival. Also this. Although if the lineup came out historically when it usually does, she would still have those two shows to play. Way worse that they’re in June now Eh RHCP played UC at the end of May and The Black Keys played in April in 2012 It’s really not a big deal |

I'm happy that Ariana Grande is headlining. Just like I was about Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. There's really no chance I would ever see them play an arena ($$$), so seeing them at a fest is perfect for me.

Well this is a fascinating little development that raises some additional questions.
Did C3/LN cut a deal with Coachella to allow Ariana on the bill?
From the timing and tone of this "leak" I would guess the answer is no. They probably wouldn't be out here claiming credit and trying to defend their turf if there was a formal agreement. They also are getting screwed over by the rescheduled dates putting her in Chicago so close to Lolla. But while I doubt Lolla would go for two major pop headliners in one year, it did momentarily make me ask "did they get JT in exchange?"
Will Lollapalooza book all 3 of Coachella's top acts?
I'm not sure that has ever happened before in the same year. There are reasons both Childish and Tame might not make the line-up, with Tame Impala having headlined Pitchfork just last year and Childish Gambino potentially winding down his tour prior to August (even though he owes C3 some favors after his cancelled dates last year). But there's a lot of evidence that they will, which could be contributing to why LN/C3 wanted to go public.
Is there a top 4 exclusive, and was Ariana it?
No way to know unless the original source of that rumor provides more info. The original post was put up a week ago, after Ariana was announced for Coachella -- but that doesn't mean the OP gleaned that info in that timeframe. Ariana seems like a clear #1, even with the Coachella booking, so saying "Top 4" seems to leave the door open either way.
Does this change anything?
With so much potential overlap with Coachella and the pressure added by putting 2 re-scheduled Ariana dates in Chicago in June, it wouldn't surprise me if there wasn't at least some serious consideration of adjusting the line-up or adding some exclusive elements. That said, we don't know the full picture here. I just hope this lights a fire under C3/LN's ass to really blow it out of the water this year.

Total off-the-wall thought... what about Billy Joel? He has played Wrigley Field every year since 2013 but this year he seems to be skipping it and playing in Milwaukee in April. Lolla falls between a Baltimore and Denver date.

I know its weird to think we would get all 3, but if Tame was bumped up, and Ariana wasn't supposed to be there it would have only been 1 headliner before all the late changes. |
