I read somewhere that the bodega stands were selling lighters, but that doesn't make a lot of sense if the reason they were confiscating lighters is that smoking wasn't allowed. Oh you have to be fuckin with me

Bag lines at the Monroe entrance are the longest I've seen at this time of day too Moved from another response....I think this is where these comments belong:
Although there were a couple of times over the weekend when things were organically long, in other situations (and there were a LOT) they became long because of expected (and/or real) mob action.
There are eyes everywhere, electronic and live, watching group action along the streets you would expect.
If/When something looked about to kickoff, things were slowed (unfortunately) to try to make sure that no one got hurt in case a crowd got past the front lines. I guess it would suck if it added 30 minutes to your bag line wait, but if that 30 minutes also prevented you from getting plowed over by 50 asshats, maybe not.
I'm never going to suggest that I understand the "best way" to account for all circumstances and you can certainly say good/bad things about how security was handled, just know there's a lot going on that you'll never see or hear about, and almost all of that is in the concern of safety.
That's not surprising and is appreciated, but I think I was more surprised at how large the festival attendance was early in the day compared to past years.

both evenings we went to the first were top notch fun. crowds were annoying but honestly noticeably better than the last few times we've gone (maybe we were just better at avoiding the shitshow acts this time) -didnt know what a Maggie Rogers was but she was totally fine -Chevelle was probably the best sounding act ive ever heard on that cursed stage. they also added a few throwback songs that werent on their normal setlists so that was fun. crowd was DED but whatever it's a metal band at lolla -JANELLE MONAE IS A GODDESS AND OUGHTA BE HEADLINING. stellar show that got me super emotional. production was insane. setlist was perfect for 60 minutes (she also did an infinitely better job at managing time for costume changes than any other pop act we saw) -Gambino was way better than i expected. i knew it'd be a very flashy show but i was still blown away with the visuals and camerawork and donald spending so much time on the ground or by the soundstage. still not huge into his music generally but the live performance was a hoot and way more engaging -Kacey aftershow was phenomenal but also a shame that it was pretty much her standard setlist plus like 4 old songs and 2 covers. i figured she wouldnt go long even tho she teased it. still, sound was perfect and the crowd was nuts -Sharon Van Etten was great but the bass on that stage is poop. drowned out some quieter songs. she sounded a bit feeble at the beginning (probably blew her voice out the night before?) but by the time she got to "Seventeen" she was shouting and it was fucking dope -okay i get the novelty of a Shaq DJ set but seriously that was abysmal sounding lol like both his actual music and the stage itself. it didnt even look all the kids in the pit were very into it. everyone just wanted to see Shaq stand next to a laptop. -Kacey's fest set was also great but her voice also seemed a bit quieter than the night before but maybe that was just where we were relative to the PA. crowd near us kinda sucked -WOW so i didnt know Mitski was full St Vincent now but im all for it. was wild to walk up and hear chugging guitars and seeing her dance on a table. vast difference from when i saw her back at coachella like 2015. wild good -Slash was fine. we missed the GnR song (if he even played it?) but i knew the last 3 singles they played so it was okay. Myles' voice was noticeably backtracked though which is a shame cause dude's got pipes. -so i really like how Ariana started. i only knew 4 songs through the whole set but early on it felt pretty dark and brooding and i was into it. as it went on, i knew more stuff but kinda liked the show less. it was great dancing with the whole board but i honestly didnt enjoy the show a ton by the end of it. production was beautiful and her voice is outstanding but generally speaking i dont think her upbeat stuff does a lot for me. no disrespect to y'all who loved it tho! overall very fun 2 days at the fest and 1 aftershow. im exhausted and i didnt even do half of what you guys did lol. absolutely will not do 4 days next years but hopefully can swing 1 or 2 days again! also $10 beers not including tax now is fucking horseshit and makes me wanna flip the tables. $11.15 for someone who always brings cash to festivals for easy beer purchases with a single bill is infuriating

Survey is out and it’s 60 fucking questions but they seem intent on asking if the fest should be 18+ every year so I’ll fill it out every time.

Last night sucked a bit, I did get to watch Shaq and SVE for a bit at least. Went to check in for the water thing, they had 120 people signed up, only 37 people showed up. So we really didn’t get a choice of where to go. I did end up on the north end again, but couldn’t hear Mitski at all. Oh well.
I agree that the crowd didn’t seem so bad, aside from the asshole bi whistle loudly next to the stage during SVE.

Joji probably should have been a main stage act... His set seemed a little underwhelming on the stream. Crowd definitely looked massive, and if I was there I would have checked it out too. Would have been a great time to bust out some Pink Guy / Filthy Frank nostalgia.

I’m gonna say that as a resident young if I didn’t go to this fest I would have no idea who the fuck Perry Ferrel is. Well if the fest insiders can't even spell his name...

Looking at some of the highlights on the YouTube channel, looks like a lot of great sets. What the fuck is Ghostemane though, did anyone see them? Quite the show

Looking at some of the highlights on the YouTube channel, looks like a lot of great sets. What the fuck is Ghostemane though, did anyone see them? Quite the show I saw them. Metal/Rap/Horror rock/Screamo...I thought they were a duo (guitar/singer and drummer). Boys was I wrong. I thought they were really cool. Not my type of music, but still a lot of fun to watch. Although, i did kinda get an early clue when the techs were testing the video screen around 11:00 that morning and I saw the band's name flashed on it. It reminded me of Wretched's festival line-ups with the unreadable logos. One thing, I made a special trip from the north side to the south side just to see them. It was worth it.
