You know which one suuuuucks now is the Southwest terminal at O'Hare, or maybe it was just the gate we had for Nashville, but it was a ridiculously long walk - I thought I was being dramatic/lazy but a friend of mine who's a personal trainer just flew out of that terminal and they had to flag down a cart to get to their gate in time. The gate itself is fine I guess. my bro has flown in and out of there a few times recently and has had an insanely long wait for bags.

Yeah they keep booking me on the Southwest O'Hare route for work and I fucking hate it.

La Guardia has gone from my least favorite airport to my favorite. The terminal B redo is amazing - great food/retail options, and comfortable gate seating. Probably helps that my meeting ended early and I had a few beers at the Centurion Lounge, but still. Its quite the upgrade compared to what it was with the leaking ceilings, rats and small seating areas. I don’t appreciate the forced journey through the “gift shop” after passing through security, but it’s a minor quibble. Was the Centurion Lounge super crowded? We’ve tried to use it a few times over the past six months and it felt like it was not worth it two out of the three times.

I was by myself and sat at the bar. AmEx has changed the access rules for the lounge (minimum spends to bring in guests), so I am hopeful the overcrowding situation of last year improves.

Speaking of, Kansas City just opened its new airport. I haven't been there yet, but it's all in one building, no separate terminals like it used to be.

Denver's new airport is well under way with construction. The parts they've unveiled so far are really nice, but the hiccups with security have been wild. I was coming back through on Sunday picking up a bag and the security line was intermingled with baggage claim, which I have not seen before.
I had some points to use for Frontier, and even with the "charge for everything" philosophy it ended up being about $300 cheaper than the next cheapest option, so I flew with them for the recent Phoenix trip. First flight was fine. The flight back was a shitshow, though. We were boarded two hours late and then deboarded with no explanation. Ended up spending 6 hours at the airport. Never received any explanation for what happened. I'm done regardless of the price difference at this point.
Trip was fun - Phoenix is underrated on the food front, and the weather was beautiful. We went to both Camelback Ranch and Sloan's Park. Cubs game was uncomfortably crowded on the lawn, so definitely grabbing seats next time. Sox game was marred by an employee named Dale who kept coming up to our group and commenting that any beer we were drinking under 5% was a "sissy beer" and then he stole my shoe at one point. Just a real old boomer who thought he was hysterical.

We were in the lawn and it was wide open, so I took off my shoes to wander a bit in the grass and came back and one of them was gone. He was smirking in the distance and a stranger came up to me and told me where it was. Ended up moving to seats after that. Incredibly weird guy.

what other good food/beer spots did you hit? -The Churchill food hall downtown had a bar with a really good beer list and the pizza and taco options were tasty. -Cartel Coffee had an incredible poblano and potato breakfast burrito. -The Main Ingredient had a great beer and sandwich list. -Taco's Tijuana was a spot we visited a couple times due to proximity from the place we were staying and everything I ordered was pretty damn good. -Christopher's was well worth the money spent - dinner experience lasted about 3 hours on Thursday night.

an employee named Dale who kept coming up to our group and commenting that any beer we were drinking under 5% was a "sissy beer" kind of off-topic but this reminds me of a time i went to a frisco roughriders game and when i bought a beer, the bartender put an orange wedge on the rim, and when i went to my seat, i said hello to a crusty old fart next to me and he looked at me, looked at my beer and said "i don't put no goddam fruit in my goddam beer." and that was the only words he said all night. awkward. i mean, he's not wrong...

I was coming back through on Sunday picking up a bag and the security line was intermingled with baggage claim, which I have not seen before. I’m struggling to picture this - every major airport I’ve ever been through has security and baggage claim on separate levels. Also: didn’t Denver just build a new airport like 25 years ago?

In other airport news, we flew out of Newark to New Orleans today and the new Terminal A is very nice - maybe even better than the new main LGA terminal. But they apparently couldn’t figure out a way to get Terminal A’s AirTrain station closer to the terminal entrance? It’s literally a 15 minute walk - glad we weren’t running late.

New security checkpoints will all be located on level 6 and they've had to move everything to accommodate the construction. So yeah, same level. There's still quite a bit of separation, but I'm guessing that the one security side that doesn't do Precheck was the culprit for the line.
I think it opened in 95. It's been the busiest airport in the U.S. for a few years now so some type of change was needed to the layout.

Where'd you end up on lodging and plans? New NOLA airport is nice We’re at the Troubadour in the CBD. It’s fine. Probably would stay elsewhere next time. We went to the Mavs/Pelicans game last night and wrapped up with drinks on the hotel’s rooftop bar. Took the streetcar to City Park this morning. Got beignets at Cafe du Monde and visited the sculpture garden, then hopped the bus to Liuzza’s by the Track for gumbo and po’ boys. Also hit up Santa Fe for margaritas which were quite strong before coming back to the hotel to chill out. Brigtsen’s for dinner tonight, then Bonerama is playing a show at 200-capacity Chickie Wah Wah. Tomorrow is probably Frady’s for lunch, FQ ghost tour, Bistro Daisy for dinner and Kermit Ruffins at Blue Nile on Frenchman. Saturday is the St. Pat’s parade in the Irish Channel neighborhood including a block party at Parasol’s. Might wander down Magazine Street and check out The Key and the Tree of Life before dinner at Patois and hopefully the all-female Pinettes Brass Band at dba on Frenchman. Sunday brunch at Sylvain then maybe a second line and/or a crawfish boil at Carrollton Station or Maple Leaf Bar. Not sure what we’ll do for dinner yet. And fly back Monday morning. There’s so much I was hoping to fit in that we’re not doing - Tip’s, Pres Hall, Bacchanal, Spotted Cat, Cochon… I’m sort of already thinking about the next visit here.

Emma and I are headed out to Vegas tonight for a weeklong trip, mostly thru the parks of Southern Utah (Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef). Booked a reservation for brunch at Bouchon off the numerous recommendations from this thread. Should be a great week!

Spirit just tried changing my flight plan for Atlanta for the second time, this time adding a 6 hour layover in Dallas. I just searched and rebooked my flight and got it for over $50 cheaper. Thanks Spirit!

Has anyone flown Allegiant? I've always wanted to go to Asheville but flights have always seemed unreasonably pricey. I found a $77 r/t on Allegiant last night which I'm sure is scary bare bones but intriguing at the same time??

If it really sucks, you can book a return on another airline. 🤷🏻♂️
