What's good in Austin these days? I haven't been in a few years and I'm sure everything's changed. I got a seat at the bar at Uchi for the night I get in, hope that's still good. Uchi is a fine tuned machine, you'll have a good time. I'm actually going to the Houston one on Thursday, I'm pumped Interstellar Barbecue is my new favorite barbecue place. It's a bit north but because of that the line's don't get as crazy, by there by 10:40 AM for the 11 AM opening and you're good, plus they give you free beer in line. Everything there is nearly perfect but the brisket specifically is excellent Suerte has become one of my favorite restaurants, it's so good. It's sister restaurant Este (similar but more seafood focused) is also very good but I like Suerte a bit more. That being said Este is a very easy walk to the Moody Center though, I did that for the Billy show in June Cuantos Tacos has become a go to, and it's in a very good food truck park with lots of options kind of by all the downtown venues. I also had a really good meal at Birdie's last year and they don't take reservations so it's an option if its too late for some of the above, though sometimes a solid wait. Can order and drink the (very good) wine in line though.

Thanks! I had been reading good things about Interstellar, will have to save it for another trip as this is a working trip and I won't be able to get out there when they're open. I will add Este and Cuantos Tacos to the list though, both seem like good options for preshow dinner. I'm staying off south Lamar so had been kind of focused on places I can get to quickly before work or for a quick lunch break.
Separately, is February a miserable time to go to the UK?

I'm pretty sure the weather can and probably will be miserable anytime in the UK.
What travel podcasts do you people like? Obviously, Rick Steves is good. I like Extra Pack of Peanuts. I just don't know what else is out there and good.

I don't know if it's good, but I'm going to Kristen Kish's restaurant while I'm down in Austin for ACL. We've been. The menu the night we went was limited (I want to say only 2 or 3 mains), but what we had was fantastic. Also bought her book, which she signed back in the kitchen and had our waiter bring out to us (because she was busy). Then as we were leaving she came running out to meet us in the atrium of the building to say Hey...which was unexpected and cool. If you can ignore the overbearing hipster vibe, the food is good and we recommend it.

If you want burgers, Casino El Camino is an off-beat dive downtown that was worth a lunch trip.
If you want ribs, I say drive to Lockhart, forget about the waiting in line, we serve until we run out hassle. Go to the source. Smitty's Kreuz, doesn't matter.

rango420 ya mind telling me what was good to eat and drink in DBQ? visiting my bro friday (just for a night). i will tell 'em you sent us. Just for a night Brazen for dinner was really good new-American scratch kitchen place that probably every American city has at this point but I thought this was among the better ones. Paul’s Tavern a fun place for a late night burger in a MAGA adjacent way. A bunch of good coffee shops for the morning. We had a great breakfast burritos at Devour coffee and the owners are legit weirdos but the coffee wasn’t great. Wish Convivium was better for bfast but vibes were good. Smoke Stack was a super cool 4 story bar but the first floor has a stage so the event could presumably change the vibe dramatically. Odd Fellows was a really fun happening dive bar that kind of goes on forever and has cheap drinks/pinball/pool and super diverse clientele. There was some more dance-y place that everyone recommended that we didn’t make it to. All of the breweries were ‘doing too much’ in my opinion but all were chill.

Oh the casino downtown by the old brewery has (or had) a cheap bowling alley and $5 pitchers of domestic beer

It’s as far as I can tell it’s the main attraction that isn’t upscale bar food or steak house. The most memorable meal we had was at Timmerman’s Supper Club across the river but that’s a very specific vibe

Also have an extra to Childers/John Anderson/margo price etc. @ GOP if any Nashville area borders interested before I sell oshoney carligula @ Damn, wish I had seen this on time 😭

Any recommendations on where to stay in Philadelphia would be appreciated. Never been and looking for a central spot with good food/stuff to do in the vicinity, and I have no idea what I'm looking at when I'm checking Airbnb for available places. This trip is booked. Taking the red eye on a Thursday night and getting in early Friday morning - will be there through the weekend for the marathon. I ended up booking a spot near-ish the convention center. Not a whole lot of options available that are walkable to the marathon course, but I'm happy with the spot I ended up with. Anyway, all recommendations appreciated. I'm putting together my travel map and already have some historical/museum spots picked out. airportman if you're free at all the weekend of the 17th let me know.

If you're a vinyl guy Repo Records was pretty good digging. I liked Ishkabibble's across the street too but most of my Philly trips were more in the burbs and I have no strong opinions on cheesesteaks.

I'm a little late here, but you should check out the actual Paddy's Pub. It's dumb, but if you like the show....

I've been making a tradition of trying to grab a record or two when I travel, so this is great. It's kind of fun to be able to identify a record with a trip.

My wife and I are going to spend a few extra days in Paris after the cruise. Anyone here know a good neighborhood to book a hotel in? The last time we stayed, we found a hotel right by Parc du Champ de Mars, which is the big park right in front of the Eiffel. First time we stayed about a block or two from the Bastille. Both were pretty good and were very close to Metro stops. I would just say to make sure your hotel is a block or two from a Metro stop. Theirs is very much like NYC, it runs all over the city and is very easy to use

Only other option I can think of is like some southern parts of Texas like South Padre Island, but even then you could catch a bad weekend where it ends up cold. I think the keys or Puerto Rico is your only bets while staying in the US. If you wanted to include Mexico you could definitely get some nice beachy weather any time of the year. Just ask Ted Cruz about Cancun

Just ask Ted Cruz about Cancun apparently the avg. temp in south padre in dec is like 68 so i doubt it'd be the warmth we're wanting. and the little girlies won't have passports for mexico. finally applied for one for ours but won't have it by then. plus the SIL seems mexico averse which is a can of worms i'd rather not open with her.
