I should clarify, most of Swaggie WAS priced and looked ready to sell; this particular browser (that sat out in the open, in the middle of the store) was not. That's what led me to believe they were discount records in the first place, it had every earmark of a bargain bin.

Booked our flights to Grand Rapids for a trip in June. Excited to have a lake trip and not really be required to do much more than sit outside and hang out with friends.
Trying to figure out a way to get to Holland with two kids without renting a car that we will barely use - reached out to friends who will be driving up, but not sure that'll work.

Witnessed 2 gross things at DCA this evening:
1. Dude scrolling social media while peeing at a urinal. He coughed and dropped his phone in the urinal. Serves him right, filthy fucker.
2. Saw this skinny hipster guy scarf down a double five guys with cheese burger and their monster order of fries in about 4 minutes before they closed the door to his flight to Miami. Can’t think of a worse choice for a pre-flight meal.

Spent a three day weekend in Boston. Had a lackluster visit nine years ago with the brats in tow; this trip was much, much better.
Took the Acela from New York which was fine, but we probably would just go regular Amtrak in the future. The biggest advantage is the reserved seating. Stayed at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Back Bay which was super close to both the Amtrak, the orange T and the green T. For the dog lovers on the board, they have a dog “mascot” who hangs out in the lobby and they seem to be a dog-friendly hotel. A lot of guests with dogs and room service even had a section with dog treats. Otherwise, it was a nice older hotel bordering on being overstuffed with doormen, bellhops, etc. They also let us check in three hours early despite having secured our reservation via Priceline.
Mrs. Doso opted for a nap and I decided to zip over to Symphony Hall to check out the BSO matinee performance. I’ve had a few instances in the past year where I’ve left an extra ticket at the box office and asked them to give it to the next person looking to buy a single, so it felt like good karma when the Symphony Hall box office offered me a comped ticket on the main floor. I arrived about 10 minutes into the beginning of the performance so I had to sit out the first piece, but it was some dissonant bullshit from 2019. I found my seat and caught the second piece which was also a modern trumpet thing, but it was much more enjoyable than the first piece. After intermission, the orchestra performed a Profokiev concerto which was incredibly enjoyable. I hadn’t been to a proper symphonic performance in decades; highly recommend it if you get the chance.
Early dinner that evening was at Toro, a tapas restaurant near BU Medical Campus. Probably the best meal of the weekend and I also highly recommend it if you’re in town. The patatas bravas, goat cheese and (shockingly) sliders were among the standouts, but truly, everything was excellent. Even Mrs. Doso, who is not a tapas fan, thought it was great. We would have ordered the paella if we had more time, but we were on a bit of a tight schedule as our friends were going to the Red Sox game that night.
After another brief respite at the hotel, we hopped back on the T and made our way to the Orpheum Theatre right by Boston Commons for Waxahatchee. Weird venue sort of tucked at the end of a dead-end street that feels more like an alleyway. It’s also one block from where Mrs. Doso interned at the Irish Immigration Center way back when she was getting her masters in social work. It seemed like an older theatre that hasn’t really been updated with not enough room for patrons in the lobby areas resulting in super long beer and bathrooms lines. We had balcony box tickets and holy shit I’ve never experience such cramped seating. Even Mrs. Doso who is 5’6”-ish couldn’t sit down without splaying her legs. Great show, though, and a very respectful crowd. The lighting was completely bare bones and it felt very much like a statement from Katie: “I’m a great songwriter; these are my tunes and I own this stage.” Loved her performance, loved watching Spencer Tweedy drum. I only wish she’d performed some of the great songs from Out in the Storm.
Slept in on Saturday, then we met up with our Cubs fan friends and took the T to Fenway where we circumnavigated the park before arriving at Bleacher Bar, an establishment located under the bleachers with a fenced opening that looks out onto center field. Had a Guinness, enjoyed the view of the teams warming up, then went to D.W. French bistro for an al fresco brunch. Solid food, but the croque madame at our neighborhood bistro is still unbeaten. I had clam chowder and poutine. After brunch, we visited the Trillium outpost by Time Out Market. Very busy, but we found a nice spot in the shade and enjoyed a couple of brews - I started with the English pale ale which included an unexpected free Trillium glass. Good stuff all around. Finally, we made our way back to Fenway for the game which the Cubs lost in a laugher, 17-0. But it was great to visit Fenway for the first time and we were sitting right behind a fun group.
Dinner that evening was in the North End at Trattoria il Panino, one of Mrs. Doso’s all-time favorite restaurants. They seated us in the old section of the restaurant which was a relief because it’s much more intimate and less noisy that the newer expanded section. Our appetizers were great, but my meal was just so-so. Also enjoyed a lovely bottle of Barolo. Went back to the hotel for a nightcap in the bar - I ordered the Bee’s Knees which was whimsically served in a honey bear vessel with a honey dipper.
Slept in again on Sunday, checked out at noon, left the bags at the hotel and went to Bistro du Midi for another al fresco brunch. It was a tier above D.W. French; my buddy order a nicoise salad that was particularly outstanding. It was also right across the street from Boston Public Gardens and the weather was perfect for a walk in the park. Everyone seemed to be out as we walked through to the north side where the “Cheers bar” is conveniently located (really more of a gift shop and a replica of the set).
Our friends left for the airport and we had a few hours to kill before our Acela back to NYC. We went to the seemingly endless mall (which includes at least Copley Plaza and Prudential Center) to Earl’s Kitchen + Bar to check out their rooftop bar. Grabbed the last two available seats and enjoyed a couple of drinks plus some key lime pie. Not much of a rooftop (it seemed to be the shortest building roof surround by other taller roofs), but pleasant enough and we chatted with a couple of Cubs fans who were sitting next to us.
The entire city seemed to be teeming with Cubs fans last weekend. Everyone we interacted with was extremely friendly save for the old guy who ran into me as we crossed paths inside of Fenway, then when he continued to try to walk through me, I pushed him off with my arm and kept walking, which apparently was his cue to yell at me and attempt to goad me into a fight, I guess? (I did not fight.)

Biiig fan of Il Panino, big fan of any place that serves pasta in a hot pan straight to my table. It's one of the first places I bring out of town friends or family, always a hit. The Fairmont's Oak bar is one of my favorites, the bee's knees is great choice (I have stolen many of those honey dippers) and Bistro du Midi is one of the best French restaurants in the city and has killer martinis, 10/10 recommend.

If you get the Patatas Bravas, be sure to “make it a Brava Bomb”. This was phenomenal. My coworker told me to tell you “thank you” Service was great, food was incredible. Glad I walked to the game to work off some of the calories. We did do the Brava Bomb, and that was a highlight. Other highlights were the sardines and the croquettas. Not a bad dish was ordered.

No one needs New Orleans advice from me but it's worth noting for the casual tourist that Central Grocery muffalettas are the same price at the airport as they are in the French Quarter. If your flight is too early to make a stop at Cochon Butcher on the way out of town it's a decent alternative.

We grabbed the airport muffulettas from Central Grocery on our way out of NOLA last year. It was an early morning flight and we enjoyed them for lunch when we got home. Excellent hack, for sure.

My trip to Boston was a fun time. Had some great meals and was able to sneak out of work obligations to go to a Red Sox game and go on some runs around the city. In addition to the aforementioned meal at Toro, I had a good experience at Parish Cafe - kind of fun to have a menu of sandwiches created by a collection of local chefs.
Also checked out the new Chase Sapphire club at Logan International, and that it exceeded my expectations. Great selection of food and booze available and you get to look out at some nice views of the bay while waiting on your flight.

Just got back from two weeks in Europe. Had 3.5 days in Amsterdam, and happened to be there on Kings Day which was an experience. Basically everyone was partying in the street on that day and everyone was drunk, it was kind of trashy but fun. Caught most the big tourist highlights. Keukenhof was wild, never seen a garden like that in my life, and I thought the Van Gogh museum was cool. Overall I liked the city a good bit but I also think I'm good on it, don't need to go back anytime soon.
Then the bulk of the trip was Portugal. Really cool country, it was beautiful and I liked the vibes and had some pretty great food. I liked Porto a lot, nice mix of feeling like a decently big city without being too hectic, and the street food was awesome. And we had a random lunch on the river that I absolutely loved. Finishing meals with great ports for way cheaper than you ever get over here was cool too.
Then drove down to the coast and spent two days in Salema, a really nice kinda sleepy but tourist friendly town that was really beautiful. Had a great seafood cataplana at one of the restaurants there and they had two bars in town that both had fun vibes. Had a place right on the beach which was a beautiful beach, but they had colder than usual weather so couldn't enjoy the beach too much.
Then four days in Lisbon. Unfortunately I got sick mid Lisbon with either mild food poisoning or a stomach bug or something and that screwed up one of our four days, and caused me to miss our meal at Ramiro which was the meal I was most excited about, that was a real bummer. Also had pretty nasty weather when we visited Sintra as well which put a bit of a damper on that. But beyond that, Lisbon was pretty cool, again beautiful and some of the ancient stuff was really cool, like the Monastery and Sao Jorge Castle. And it was a fun city to just walk around in. I think I liked Porto's vibe a little bit better but I still enjoyed Lisbon. Ended on a meal with some fado music that was solid.
We decided pretty immediately we will be back to Portugal one day to re-do some Lisbon stuff and revisit Porto, it's a cool country. We also had a 20 hour layover in Paris and had an evening in the city there, we basically just walked down the Seine and saw some sights, that was cool but nothing remarkable, mainly just did it to avoid the stress of a short CDG layover. They also had a lot of stuff gated off for the Olympics including the green in front of the Eiffel Tower

I’m in San Francisco and went to House of Nanking and they sat us next to Sofia Coppola and Thomas Mars and both of them were using forks instead of chopsticks.

last summer my family started planning what my parents pretty openly referred to as their last big trip. they've both had some medical issues and my stepmom, especially, has physically slowed down recently. and then in early april my parents dropped out due to more medical issues. so my sister and i and our partners rescheduled basically the entire trip over a few weeks. on the first day, we realized the pace that my parents would've needed would've seriously limited what and how much we could do.
the four of us drove around the baltics for eight days hitting the major cities, some small towns, and a handful of rural spots. i've always had interest in contrast, so i really enjoyed the splits between major city old towns and the newer city centers as well as how soviet design/architecture has been reconfigured into current urban planning. highlights of this were vilnius and tallinn. siauliai was a surprise favorite for us, though.
after my sister and her husband left, my girlfriend and i spent several days in finland. first, we went to tampere for a relaxing weekend. and then we went to helsinki for a few days. in my previous visits to finland, i hadn't gone to any saunas. but i am now a convert.
