What airline are you flying? When I went to Japan I flew All Nippon which actually wasn't even in the international terminal, I think they were tied to United? So I pretty much just had to get there at the normal time.

I leave here for Toronto at 10:30am. Then Toronto to Tokyo - thirteen hour flight, by far the longest I’ve had. Bring some sleeping pills or melatonin just in case. 13 hours is a LONG ass flight. The first time I flew to Asia felt like unending misery because I had never been on a flight that was so long and I was so uncomfortable. And have an awesome time!

You're going to have the best time! Get up and walk around the plane a lot, mostly because it is sooo boring. But you'll be fine.

If they let you drink get trashed and then fall asleep. Not so drunk that the Air Marshals are waiting though

I'm terrible at sleeping on a plane. It's probably just being upright. I tried the technique of gradually adjusting my sleeping habits to the time zone of where I was going, and that's worked out well. Obviously that won't be a perfect fit for going to Japan, but even a little bit of an adjustment might help. Drinking makes it worse and you'll feel even more terrible when you get off the plane. [REDACTED] helps some people, but it's a huge risk if you haven't tried it while flying before.

I can't sleep on planes either. I just accept that I'm going to be up for 24-36 hours straight any time I fly to Europe or Israel.

I am a great plane sleeper but flights that long are just a different animal. Bring lots of entertainment.

Just open your window long enough for oxygen deprivation to knock you out, someone else will close it for you.

Don’t honestly know how I managed my flight to Manchester. I think I watched Step Brothers? I was probably miserable, but luckily I don’t remember it at all.

On the flight to Korea I watched a bunch of movies that all made me varying levels of sad. It was a bad choice

First time I flew internationally the movies shown were The Shaggy Dog and Fat Albert. They played Fat Albert twice for some reason.

It's been a while since I've been on a super long flight, but the new apps that United and I think American has where you can stream shows on your ipad would make a long trip like that alot less painful. Plus the Switch like scoots said.
I think on our flights to Paris, I maybe slept an hour each way. Just can't do it.

i have yet to do longer than like a five hour flight but i do fly all the time. I usually can only get like a 20-30 minute nap in before I get waken up and can't go back to sleep. The Netflix download feature has been a godsend, and I also like reading books on the plane. The Switch is also great for it. And podcasts are nice. I would hope any flight that long has power outlets for charging but I always make sure to bring a battery pack with me for my phone, the constant use will kill the battery.
im gonna probably have my first stupid long flight next year to Europe and I've been thinking about it. I was thinking maybe try to stay up for a while before the flight and take some Benadryl or something to knock me out near the beginning but idk
one time I ran into some delays and so i proceeded to get shitty drunk before my flight (it was like a two hour flight). I sat down and passed out completely before boarding even finished and didn't wake up until like 15 minutes before landing. We apparently had to wait on the runway for about an hour before takeoff due to weather and I slept through that too. It was incredible 10/10 would recommend

A Switch honestly makes the time melt away like I never could have imagined before. It's incredible.

any american flight i've been on for the last few years that lasts more than 2 hours has had screens built into the headrests with free games, a decent movie library of new releases, some ebook samples, and other stuff. it's pretty neat.

Yeah, they had this on my flight from Vegas, it was awesome. They had like a dozen Austin City LImits eps on there with TVOTR and Jason Isbell and others.

I think at this point if I know I have a long flight ahead of me I get as little sleep as possible the night before so that I can just pass out on the plane.

All the long flights have endless on demand entertainment available now. I watched the entire season of Big Little Lies on the way home from Dublin a few weeks ago.

Guess I'm blessed in that I can just put on headphones and pass out no problem. Always ensure to have a window seat, eye mask, and face mask for long flights. Being next to stinky people is not fun.

I can fall asleep on a plane ok, but it's pretty in and out and I usually end up feeling lousy. The only time I had actual restful sleep was a morning flight after I'd pulled an all-nighter.

I've found I can only fall asleep on an airplane if I have a window seat. I'm keeping that in mind when booking future long flights.
