Just applied for Global Entry. Is that worth keeping once someone else isn't paying for it? We got it because we're travelling to a few different countries in Africa next year with E's family and they insisted that it would be easiest to do that way. Also, do I need to apply for TSA Pre-Check separately? It seems to indicate I'm pre-approved for it now.

And yes, it includes TSA pre check, which is also great.

GE was allowed to bypass it. for those times it's very convenient. but if you're only using it once a year or so, is that worth it? edit: GE has no standing outside the US, so i'm not sure how it would impact flying around africa.

The idea was initially that it would be easier to get through customs in the US. I don't really feel like we need it but my grandparents in-law fly internationally 3 or 4 times a year so they have it and prefer our group to stick together and are also paying for it so I'm not complaining about it by any means. I can't imagine we will use it more often than once every 2 years or so but the fact that pre-check is included is a big perk for us since we fly domestically several times a year. Just curious as to how "worth it" the whole thing is. Thanks for your insight!

That’s good to know. I knew it was good for at least a couple but didn’t realize it was 5.

yeah, it's definitely easier when getting back in the US. you just push a few buttons at the kiosk and you're on your way.
the thing to keep in mind right now is that approval times tend to be either within two weeks of applying or two months. and then scheduling an interview can be a pain too. but if you've got time, that shouldn't be an issue.

Peoria is actually a place I can do my interview so the process of scheduling it supposedly isn’t too bad at all

Has anyone been to San Juan, Puerto Rico?
Shopping for a January or February (Mom'n"Daughter) Southern Caribbean cruise, and prices for cruises leaving from San Juan are like half the price of those leaving from New York.

Oh I forgot I need Atlanta recs ASAP thanks! The Porter is in my top 2 beer bars in the country. Homegrown for brunch. Last time I was there the aquarium had a fucking whale shark which was sweet and I’m generally not a fan of such places. The Porter was legit.

Denver was fun. Thanks for all the recommendations scoots, we ended up using quite a few (Avanti, Illegal Pete's, Uchi).
Iowa this week, but it's for work so not sure how much free time I'll have. I'll be in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids if anyone has recommendations, most likely just for dinner.

I’ve been at this Toronto airport for like five hours, they keep delaying my hour-long flight home! Everyone here seems slightly incompetent and the food is bad. Why aren’t airports better.

Pearson ain't too bad. Maybe it's just because I love Toronto and think it's a criminally underrated city. How was Japan?

Japan was great but after the 13 hour flight back to this continent I don’t really have the patience for this shit.

Other Atlanta reviews:
General Muir: Smoked fish plate was absolutely insane, top notch lox and smoked salmon and one of the best smoked trout salads I've ever had
Coca Cola museum: Late Capitalism! African Sodas are bad! South American sodas are great!
Fox BBQ: Very Fine!
Puppetry Museum: Extremely rules
Atomic Coffee: Fine!
Civil Rights Museum: Weirdly short and specific but well done!
Aviva by Kameel: Delicious!
Monday Night Brewing: very good beer
The Varsity: garbage but good garbage
hope this helps thanks for the recs everyone
