A friend of a friend runs a sick bar in Miami that was voted Best Bar through totally legitimate channels.

Muriel's in Jackson Square is haunted. If you ask them about it, they will tell you the story and take you to the dining room where they set up a table every night for the ghost. Food is pretty good as well. For a nice dinner in New Orleans, my favorite place is Brigtsen's Also, Bakery Bar (a bakery and a bar) is amazing. They have fancy doberge by the slice and the salty balls are great. In Miami - if you can spend some $ go to Kyu, especially if you have a small group. Food leans Asian and is a share plate concept. Best meal I have had in Miami. If you are in South Beach - Ola is my favorite place. Cuban-ish, with lots of great ceviche and solid cocktails.

My girlfriend has been looking for jobs outside Houston recently. There aren't a whole lot of good jobs for me here in marketing and advertising and we both want to live somewhere with more outdoor activities.
The realistic options for her (aerospace) that we're interested in are Seattle, LA and Denver. She had an opportunity in Seattle and we both went out for her interview and a long weekend checking it out. We loved it. Everyone was so nice, the music culture was obvious from the start (KEXP is amazing I can't even believe it exists), the city is beautiful with all the water around and mountains and hills. But, sadly, she is probably going to say no to the job. Now it looks as if Denver could have a great opportunity for her.
For some reason, my research on Denver (I've only passed through, never spent any real time there, [never made that trip a couple years back scoots]) has led me to believe it's a smaller, whiter version of Houston filled with transplants in boring industries (getting a very "bro" vibe) with urban sprawl and a select few exciting neighborhoods. Plus mountains (huge plus obviously).
I know I love LA and would live there for sure (I have friends there and spent a summer there, I know it's not perfect but I know I fit in there).
Someone convince me on Denver. Whether you live there or have spent time in Houston and Denver. What's the vibe like? Is it more like Seattle/Portland/Austin than it appears? I'm getting major Indianapolis/Kansas City/Dallas vibes.

It's been a while, and I know it's boomed with transplants, but that has never been my experience of Denver at all. Lots of great Spanish-speaking cultural influences throughout. I guess I'd kind of compare it to how Austin used to be before it began to gentrify to the point it has, but it's probably been almost ten years since I've spent any serious time in Denver.

I'm getting major Indianapolis/Kansas City/Dallas vibes. I love Denver. It is a great young person town in my opinion. Good place for biking and hiking. They are definitely experiencing growing pains though, but so are Seattle and Portland. In fact, I find Denver similar to Portland and Seattle, but that could be because of the beer culture. Also, Dallas doesn't have a vibe, so.....

Haha yeah, that was kind of the point of including those 3 cities. Just like I'm sure they all have 1-2 "cool" neighborhoods but overall the vibe is generic. Just hoping Denver isn't like that.
My research hasn't uncovered very distinct things Denver brings to the table.
I guess I'm just worried about the young people there being mostly boring corporate ladder-climbers like here. While I like Houston a lot, it's the polar opposite of a place like Seattle.

I got a very "hip" vibe from Denver, would love to live there and have the opportunity to see artists like Mitski.

I've spent time in both over the years and in the past year, and I like Denver but would rather live in Seattle if all things were equal.
Seattle seems like it's about to implode with the housing situation and Denver seems pretty California/Midwestern bro transplant-y.

Sucks that MMJ show isn't until August. Feel like I need to go check it out for myself.
I will say, the weather there seems to be even more of a plus than I thought. I knew the whole "sunny 300 days a year" thing but didn't really the average highs in the winter were in the 40s and 50s.

Also I would think Seattle has more than its fair share of boring corporate ladder climbers

Seattle seems like it's about to implode with the housing situation and Denver seems pretty California/Midwestern bro transplant-y. I've read things about how Seattle is handling its housing situation much better than the California cities and Austin. Also, there are so many brand new apartments reasonably priced compared to LA and SF. I just don't like the bro city vibe. I'm probably smack dab in the middle of the hippest, hipster creative vs urban corporate bro spectrum but I much prefer to surround myself with the former. I like wine bars and hole in the wall ethnic restaurants. Not fancy brunches and loud bars.

And I much prefer nerdy Amazon and Google "bros" over oil & gas or finance. I really struggle with the whole "you should be able to find your niche or scene anywhere" thing. I guess I prefer to bitch and find my perfect city.

Trip to Disney World is almost a week away. Any recommendations for places to eat/things to do in Orlando outside of Disney? Any regional beers I should sample?
We're also going to Tampa to visit the Dali museum one day.

I was about to say, Cigar City is the one Tampa brewery everyone talks about and the only one I had while out in Florida, and I can confirm they make good shit.

We're also going to Tampa to visit the Dali museum one day. Basically anything worthwhile in Orlando is pretty far from Disney. If you do actually head into the city, Mills50 and Audubon Park are some good areas. Eat at Hawkers or Tako Cheena, shop for records at Park Ave CDs, drink at Wally's (a true gem of a dive bar) & Redlight Redlight (really solid beer bar). Do Karaoke at Big Daddy's once drunk. Profit.

Anyone flown Turkish Airlines before? They're currently cheapest for dates I'm looking at for Israel, but I have no experience with them.

Thanks, booking flights now actually. Part of Star Alliance as well, so earning United miles is a nice bonus.

Flight on United was just about the worst airline experience I've had - from the crew at the gate in Louisville all the way back to trying to find someone to help out my wife in Denver once we landed. Still angry about it this morning. Icing on the cake was locking my keys in my car in the economy lot.
