Thanks, booking flights now actually. Part of Star Alliance as well, so earning United miles is a nice bonus. check the fare class if redeemable/qualifying miles are important. turkish and united don't really get along, so many of their fares earn nothing on united. Yes, this exact thing happened to me with Aer Lingus. Thankfully these Turkish flights do earn credit.

Flight on United was just about the worst airline experience I've had - from the crew at the gate in Louisville all the way back to trying to find someone to help out my wife in Denver once we landed. Still angry about it this morning. Icing on the cake was locking my keys in my car in the economy lot. United sucks, but so does American and living in Chicago I really can't avoid either. If I can get a couple free flights a year I'll take 'em.

Long story short - my wife injured her ankle in Kentucky, and it was bad enough to warrant a trip to urgent care and the use of crutches. We were asking for minimal accommodations from United and they were unable to provide it. Gate staffs in both Kentucky and Denver were unable to provide a wheel chair, which is insane to me. We were told to wait for 10-15 minutes near an open door at a ground level gate in Denver and ended up just locating a cart ourselves to at least drive us to the airport train. There were other issues on the flight - the crew for our flight back had clearly checked out and made maybe 2 passes in the cabin. Just a super frustrating experience.

Shout out to the airport staff in Louisville, though. They were pretty terrific and even had someone meet us at the rental car drop off with a wheelchair.

It seems like there's at least one wheelchair at the gate for every flight I'm on. I've been very satisfied with Delta lately. And, of course, Spirit will always have a special place in my heart.

I've been very satisfied with Delta lately. And, of course, Spirit will always have a special place in my heart. Spirit will also always have a special place in my body since I can still occasionally feel the weird shoulder pain I got from sitting perfectly straight up for an entire flight 4 years ago.

I rarely recline my seat, even when it's an option.

I typically don't either but the seats on Spirit were wholly uncomfortable and sit up a bit straighter than your average airplane seat for the sake of fitting as many people in as possible. I also didn't love that we were sitting at the gate for a few minutes and they wouldn't open the door or let us leave until everyone was handed a credit card pamphlet.

I can tell you from experience that the credit card pitch is supposed to happen about 20-30 minutes before landing. Spirit has actually improved in the past four years! But the seats are basically the same.

I am finally fucking home after what felt like the longest trip to visit family ever. I love them dearly but... it’s a lot sometimes. Anyways they got me all worried about having to take malaria pills for our trip next year. Has anyone here done that before? Do you typically feel strong side effects?

I took Malarone and had no side effects.

I didn't take Malarone, but had no issues with the one that I did take. One friend did get sick from the Malarone, but he was 1/35 that were all taking various malaria meds.
The only issue I had was when I got back from the jungle and got food poisoning. I had all sorts of weird waking dreams that were terrifying and I think exacerbated my having taken the malaria pills, but that only lasted a couple of days.

Wait bosma where are you going that requires malaria pills? I’m going to a handful of countries in Africa. My grandparents in law want to spend time with us so I guess every few years they pick out some sort of trip, usually Nat Geo based, and take a bunch of the family there.

Whoa, very cool! Did I miss a previous discussion? Where in Africa? I only briefly discussed it, maybe in regardless to global entry and whether or not it’s worth it? Anyways it is super cool and I feel super fortunate to be able to experience this. We’ll be in parts of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana, including Victoria Falls and some nature preserves as well. I’m super fucking excited. It’s through a company that’s all local guides which is really neat.

Not exactly next door, but one cheap flight away... and you can't find a better mix of culture, history and nature (not to mention great food and inspiring people) Also, took malarone twice over the past year (in March while in Ethiopa and again this November as I was travelling to the Surinamese and Guyanese interior) and both times had zero side effect.. stay far away from Lariam though!

I'm flying Spirit for the first time next week - if I just have a regular sized backpack that I've previously stored under the seat on a flight, what are the chances they're going to make me pay for a gate check at the gate? Just wondering how they police the baggage size.
I'll hang up and listen.
