Cool, thanks folks. Saw the $65 gate check fee and started freaking out a bit that they'd try to say my bag wasn't a personal item.

Girlfriend and I had a really good time in Orlando. But, NYE at Disney is totally not my scene. We did Epcot on NYE and left at 10pm b/c we had done everything we had wanted to do and were tired of the crowds, the EDM DJ's asking people to make some noise, just tired in general. People-watching is kind of fun, for a while I was keeping track of how many multiple NYE-themed matching T-shirts families/couples were wearing (I think I stopped at 13).
Also, on NYE on the way to Epcot around 12:30pm we saw a long line of cars and a highway sign that said 'MAGIC KINGDOM FULL'. Apparently they stopped letting people in around noon b/c of capacity. They started letting people in again in the afternoon. Fortunately we had done the Magic Kingdom - and the major rides - the evening of 12/30.
The only ride we didn't get to do was the Avatar ride at Animal Kingdom. We couldn't get a Fastpass for it, so we tried to get to the park when it opened at 8am. At 8:15, there was already a 2 1/2 hour wait and it never went below that. Most of the wait times we found out were shorter than what they estimated.
Universal Studios was cool, the amount of people in Harry Potter land was nuts. We did manage to ride both of the HP rides (the one at Universal and the one at Islands of Adventure), both were pretty great. Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios was another great one.
Weather was almost perfect - partly cloudy, low 80's/high 70's during the day, shorts every day.

Same. I've flown Spirit dozens of times and I've never once been questioned about my backpack that fits under the seat. They will stop people with giant frame backpacks, big-ass duffels or traditional carry-on luggage. edit: irt scoots

My sister got stopped with her backpack at the gate once and they made her pay to check it. This was several years ago though.

I did a quick Google search and it seems like it's more of an issue on Frontier. I never personally had the issue on Frontier, so maybe it's just whether or not the gate attendant decides to be an asshole. Eh I'm sure I'll be fine.

Heading to Puerto Vallarta for eight days on Saturday. December was so rough at work, I can't wait to check out for a while.

3 full days enough for boston to keep me entertained without leaving too much of the main stuff out of it?

Yep You could obviously do a lot more with more time, but I've done 3 or 4 not-that-full days in Boston and had a great experience. If you're down for a lot of walking, the Freedom Trail knocks quite a bit out and really lets you see the city.

Most cities like Boston have a nice dedicated subreddit with a list of suggestions. I usually check that out.
Also 3 days is pretty much perfect for Boston if you like history.

i feel like i thought it would take like 5 hours to drive to boston from charlotte but apparently it's more like 13.5!
fly on saturday, it'll be cheaper and you won't lose anything by shortening a day since there's not that much to do in boston.
