Go to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, it's one of my favorites.
Also, don't drive around downtown Boston, it's horrible.

which kinda leads me to another general question, outside of the official travel thread what sites do people typically use for finding things to do and eat when they travel? are they useful? i feel like yelp, google maps, thrillist, eater, etc. are all kinda trash. here ya go images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51XpiroxiCL.jpg

i refuse to believe the cheers bar closes Honestly the largest question that Cheers poses as a series is what exactly the hours are for the bar Cheers. It seems to open at 10 AM but they do a lot of activities after bar closing and not alot of cocaine

Bon Apetit usually has some good finds, too.

I was also 14 so it seemed unlikely I could come back during normal bar hours to partake in the Cheers related activities. I do understand you’re talking about the show not the actual bar here.

When I travel I normally pick 2-3 food/bars I know I want to go, and than just ask bartenders where to go after that. Eater list tends to be my 2-3 places and a good ol fashioned yelp search for a lunch place is normally pretty fruitful as well.

There's a Chinese restaurant not far from Cheers you might want to check out, called PF Changs. Not sure on their policy about applying patches to their guests.

I haven't lived in or been to Boston in >4 years but here are some things I liked that still exist
$$$ Dinner: Myers and Chang Puritan & Co
Bar: Lord Hobo Green Street Tavern Deep Ellum jm Curley Silhouette
Breakfast, lunch and snacks Mike & Patty's Flour Bakery Union Square Donuts Garlic n Lemons Good stuff in Chinatown too
See: Mt Auburn Cemetery - might not be great in late winter! MFA Harvard Museums ICA - actual collection is tiny so it depends on the special exhibit, but the actual building and location is cool Great movie theaters that might showing something cool - Coolidge Corner, Brattle Theatre, Harvard Film Archive Neighborhoods to walk around - Beacon Hill, Jamaica Plain (Centre Street and Jamaica Pond)
I really liked living in Boston but people aren't wrong, it's not the coolest city for just a visit.
edit: just realized I lied, I went to Boston often in 2015-2016

I second the Eater suggestion. Not sure why more people wouldn't use it - it's great for big cities, and they often have lists for breweries and coffee shops, too.
I almost always purchase a Lonely Planet book if my trip is going to be for any longer than a weekend. They've always served me well.

I disagree that 2.5 or even 3 days is too long in Boston. There is such an immense amount of history there, walking tours that are actually well-guided and worthwhile, and plenty of trails and sights to see on your own.
Space that out with some good meals (Faneuil Hall is another fun spot, big marketplace) and a little nightlife and it sounds like a good trip to me
edit: not directly IRT scoots, just a generalization - also follow hubbins advice he is clearly more in the know, i have taken rather touristy trips to Boston (but enjoyed them a lot)

I am super jealous. Not taking any time off over the holidays has really burnt me out. Same here. Especially as work was pretty crazy throughout the weekend until late on December 24th, and then start to be frantic again as of January 2nd

If they're in town while you're there, the ballpark where the Pirates play is consistently rated one of the best in MLB.

the warhol museum and mattress factory are both pretty great. randyland is kind of fun if you're nearby, but i wouldn't make a special trip just for it. the children's museum has a good mr. rogers exhibit.

We really like walking around the downtown area around the Mellon Square area My only food rec is this great burger bar we found near where we stayed, BRGR. They have damn good alcoholic shakes too. That, and it's pretty much required by law to stop at a Primanti Brothers at some point there.

Cool, I hadn't heard of the Mattress Factory and it looks like there's a Greer Lankton exhibit ongoing there.

Mattress Factory is great. And yeah seconded on Primanti's, get a sandwich with fries on it. Also if you take the Incline to Mt Washington you can take a nice walk with a great view of the city.

Also if you take the Incline to Mt Washington you can take a nice walk with a great view of the city. yep, mount washington and west end overlook are both solid for a view of the gorgeous skyline. i would recommend the duquesne incline rather than the monongahela, just my opinion.
