The Denver/Chicago route is insanely popular and almost always sells out, so if you don't check-in 24 hours in advance, you're likely sitting alone. It's nuts.

Damn, that’s crazy. I’ve flown that route a few times but never when I’ve been in charge of checking in.

holy god, southwest's lineup procedure should be used by every single airline period.
i fly southwest almost exclusively and when i dont, the idiotic "everyone stand around in a gigantic mass near a gate" is bad for everyone.
you can get texted to check in immediately when it opens or pay $15 any time between booking and check-in to have it done for you.
the airfares are all pretty easily explained on their website and lets not act like 99% of us aren't just buying the cheapest option anyway. southwest also mails me drink coupons like they're going out of style.
basically i love southwest

Yeah I love Southwest, too. It's just not fun to explain to people who have flown maybe a half dozen times in the last 30 years.

The early bird check in is such a move.

also, separate post to say sitting separately on any airplane is preferable; there are *always* single seats available up front even by the time southwest hits the C group and you and your partner can both sit in the first 6-7 rows, get off the plane faster, and spend time together outside of a stuffy box instead of on the airplane Yeah I love Southwest, too. It's just not fun to explain to people who have flown maybe a half dozen times in the last 30 years. this, i understand. is it possible to just book it for them? beyond the lining up process, it shouldn't be too bad right?

if they flew to ohare i'd be all about it but they dont so i've used southwest like twice ever. both times were fine but it was definitely an "event" to mentally prepare myself to check in at like 6:43 am on the dot in the hopes of getting two seats together that arent aisle seats

There are always folks sooo confused about the lineup tho. You have to get pretty assertive about it sometimes

Probably a safer call than Illuminati headquarters Denver International Airport

But hey if the Illuminati are behind the food hall concepts and Great Divide being added to DIA, I'm on board.

this is maybe a hot take, but i hate when people go along the lineup and are like "what number are you? what number are you?" to find their exact place instead of just finding whatever spot in your section of the 5-number bars.

a guy on my freshman dorm floor's dad was one of the Denver airport architects and it blew my mind and I had a million questions and somehow he had never heard any of the conspiracy theories and had no answers.

No. Screw this. There is a system and an order and when you're B48 it is the difference between a window seat and not. I usually can tell because people have it pulled up but I have asked and have no shame in it.

I usually just peek over their shoulder but have no shame in asking. There's been a few times it's someone in a totally different boarding group and I'm like oh hell no nice try buddy
