If you weren't the new guy and knew them better, I'd say it's okay. If they're going somewhere, I'd tag along. Yeah, best to tag along. If you want some alone time, just say you were planning to meet up with friends/family, and do your own thing.

There's a Hugo's there, go to Hugo's.
Go eat with the people if they seem cool. If not you don't owe them anything, do your own thing. Who cares, especially if you don't actually work with them.

Unless there is an organized company dinner, I don't think it would be bad to do your own thing.
However, it may be cool to hang with them if they are doing drinks before or after dinner. Much less intense way of getting to know some of your colleagues.

This is kind of what I thought. Everyone is getting there at different times and there’s nothing organized for that day at all so I wasn’t sure what protocol is for that. Thanks everyone, I’m still adjusting to being a real adult in a real office.

Much less intense way of getting to know some of your colleagues. Counterpoint: Are colleagues ever worth getting to know? They might just walk right into your office while you're eating lunch.

Some of them are from Arizona and Florida, most of them don’t know how to mute their mics on a teleconference, one woman ate breakfast on a hot mic while we all listened. I’m almost certain I don’t want to spend the whole time rubbing shoulders with them.

They’d probably still do it, or just get a running start and toss themselves at your door.

Pretty sure I know the answer to this one but is there anything worth eating in Naperville? Specifically near the Marriott? I’ll be there for work a couple nights next week and the concept of eating in a hotel restaurant sounds awful. there's a lou malnati's in naperville that used to be an old fire station. they've got old fire station memorabilia and an old catch net hanging from the ceiling that's kinda cool. we'd eat there when we'd visit my brother when he lived in downers grove.

I've only eaten at the Hugo's in Des Plaines, not the one in Naperville or the one downtown, but I like it 100 times more than Gibson's, which I've eaten at since it opened (grandpa nanafish lived around the corner from the downtown Gibson's, and would eat there at least once a wk for a decade, and I joined him and grandma nanafish there at least once a month). whether it's the shrimp cocktail, the bookbinder soup, the chopped salad, the prime ribeye steak sandwich, or anything else on the menu, Hugo's Frog Bar is absolutely fantastic. I'll be the designated driver the next time anyone wants to go there!

LOL just realized I have tickets to Sunn AND Priests over the days I booked this trip for. I have people who will take those tickets but I really should not be allowed to be an adult.

We just got our companion pass via that SW Chase card deal. We were able to get it on the first statement due to some unexpected expenses but at least we have it for the whole year now.

Neptune Oyster Union Oyster House Toro Shojo Cragerie on Main Waypoint Sam Lagrassa's Mike's Pastry Shop Drink Tasty Burger Neptune Oyster is great. Expensive but huge portion of fries with your lobster roll. James Hook is another good one and much more affordable. Such good value and cool to sit outside at picnic tables. I went to North Square Oyster last year and wasn't as impressed. That's my lobster roll report.

Of your list I've been to Shojo (good), Mike's (fine but worthwhile esp in the evening for the North End experience) and Tasty Burger (good, but not necessarily on a list where I'd send someone). Always wanted to go to Craigie on Main but never made it happen. The Globe critic panned Union Oyster not too long ago but it could be a fun touristy thing.

My only 2 cents is we ate at a Legal Seafood right by our hotel, turned out to be really good. Ended up seeing that place on one of those travel shows showing places to eat around Boston.

Going to New Orleans in mid-March. Just made dinner reservations at Justine and brunch reservations at Compere Lapin. And, now my leftover chicken and farro lunch seems sorely inadequate.

Tasty Burger was going to be my spot to relax right after the Robyn show since it's right by House of Blues. Union Oyster is literally just to get the clam chowder and then gtfo.
