I don't know how well this follows the theme, but this mix represents songs/bands that I have heard recently, FOOLISHLY, attributed to the wrong artist. These so-called know it alls will say "oh, what a quaint cover.." and I say "NO YOU FOOL. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL. YOU ARE A CHILD." or they'll say "oh cool, I like this band." And I'll say, "oh do you? do you like this song?" and they'll be like "bitch, I ain't heard this." And then I kick them out of my car and say "sorry mom, this ain't how I roll." So for the fools and tools, this is a mix for thebosma. Sorry it's so white. 1. Chris Knox - Not Given Lightly (someone said this was Tom Verlaine. I no longer associate with this person) 2. Ann Peebles - I Can't Stand the Rain (this one's on me. I was like "oh hey this is Missy Elliot" when I heard this in a TV show recently. Boy did I look foolish. But only for a second) 3. Talk Talk - It's My Life (wife erroneously stated this was a cover of Gwen Stefani, and I made her walk home from the store as a result) 4. Bobbie Gentry - Sermon (actual quote from a "friend," "this lady is ruining one of the best Johnny Cash songs.") 5. Clinic - Internal Wrangler ("is this off Amnesiac?") 6. Pinback - Penelope (boss when I was at the bank "holy cow is this the Eagles? I love them!") 7. Gun Outfit - Matters to a Head (serious question: "is this Sonic Youth's Unplugged session?") 8. The Beach Boys - Long Promised Road ("this is the poppiest I've heard from the Velvets") 9. Pavement - Spit on a Stranger (there's a fun cover of this by Nickel Creek that my boss at the coffee shop I worked at in college would play and I once told her that it's a decent "cover." She said no, it's the original) 10. The Olivia Tremor Control - No Growing (exegesis) (get this one a lot, and it's apt: The Beatles) 11. The Clash - Hateful (this one's great, I accidentally put this song into my Iceage mix, and my wife said "Hey an Iceage song I like!") 12. The Kinks - A Well Respected Man (I listen to a lot of the Kinks, so I get quite a bit of The Beatles, Stones, Monkees, and the Who references. Usually from morons) 13. ELO - Can't Get it out of My Head (whatever you do, don't look up the utterly craptastic Velvet Revolver cover, b/c there's a "friend" of mine from college who believes that Scott Weiland and Slash wrote this song) 14. Patti Smith - Because the Night (I've heard everything from Linda Ronstadt to Stevie Nicks) 15. Mazzy Star - Look On Down From the Bridge (so this is another classic wife-ism. Doesn't matter what song it is, something about Hope Sandoval's voice makes my wife every time say "this is that goodbye horses song."

I kinda struggled with this theme. I was fixated on the word “fool” . Finally, I thought of the saying “_________ is a real fooler.” I have started to get into death metal - kind of went down a rabbit hole when looking at the Psycho Las Vegas lineup and realized I didn’t hate it. It’s cathartic and has been really working as a running soundtrack as I train for the Shamrock Shuffle. What a fooler, huh? A bit nervous that my person will totally hate this playlist, but taking risks is sort of the point of this exchange, right? Hopefully, he won’t totally hate it, or be permanently scarred. Anyway, irvred , I give you IrvDead I also have artwork, but it’s bigger than I’d like and sort of PG13, so that’s the reason for the spoiler. So here is the real playlist.
Based on irv’s Comment about “Lovefool” which I totally agree with.
Here is “Lovefool is the Best Fool”

Happy April to you, Xamnam For the April Fool's theme, I fixated on the word 'fool' and picked a bunch of songs with similar non-complimentary terms of endearment. I tried to avoid the obvious ones - Fool in the Rain, Nirvana's 'Dumb', Garbage's 'Stupid Girl', etc. I included a cover of 'What A Fool Believes', because this version is done entirely with toy instruments (and it's good!). The title of the mix comes from an old Bud Light commercial. Enjoy! You're Gonna Get Us Caught! 1. The Afghan Whigs - R******* 2. Pissed Jeans - Half Idiot 3. The Replacements - Dope Smokin' Moron 4. Eminem - Brain Damage 5. The Dead Milkmen - Bleach Boys 6. Frank Zappa - Carol, You Fool (Live) 7. Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Stupid Girl 8. Peeping Tom - Sucker (feat. Norah Jones) 9. Green Day - Prosthetic Head 10. John Maus - Big Dumb Man 11. Garbage - Dumb 12. Jane's Addiction - Idiots Rule 13. Self - What a Fool Believes

For this month's theme, I thought of my spring break vacation in April and getting some Fool to drive me to O'Hare. That fool is ten15. This month's playlist is about the drive on the Kennedy from Western to O'Hare, with each song containing the name of an exit along the way: 1.) Portishead - "Western Eyes" 2.) Grimes - "California" 3.) Kyle Craft - "Belmont (One Trick Pony)" 4.) Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day 5.) Clipse - "Comedy Central" 6.) Bill Withers - "Harlem" 7.) Le Matos - "Montrose" 8.) Local H - "Bryn-Mawr Stomp" 9.) Lana Del Ray - "Hotel Sayre" 10.) Grateful Dead - "Cumberland Blues" 11.) Rostam - "In a River" 12.) Will Hoge - "Fool's Gonna Fly"

Hey so I really had no idea what to do with this playlist, so I went with the first idea that popped in my head when it was initially proposed! <drumroll please> Musicians slimed on Nickelodeon! For some reason this was my first thought with this whole fool concept, so why the hell not! I found a list of musicians who were slimed on Nickelodeon and put together a playlist of gems from their careers. Enjoy! (I genuinely apologize, because this is not great - but hey, maybe you'll find some humor and joy in it) Playlist: Y'all Got Slimed For: chvrchbarrel1. P!nk - Get the Party Started 2. Will Smith - Miami 3. Snoop Dogg - Drop It Like It's Hot 4. Justin Timberlake - My Love 5. N.E.R.D. (Pharrell, obviously) - Things Are Getting Better 6. Puff Daddy (he'll always be Puff Daddy to me) - It's All About The Benjamins 7. Katy Perry - Roar 8. Tenacious D - Beelzeboss 9. Justin Bieber - No Sense 10. Mandy Moore - Candy 11. Queen Latifah - U.N.I.T.Y.

So I was really worried about having a topic chosen for us because I was really worried it would constrain us, and I was even more concerned when I got my pick since someone else had already done a play on his username for a theme (which would have worked great for this month but whatever I'm over it). Anyways, I started to think about different sayings with the word "Fool" in it and landed on "A fool and his money are soon parted" and I thought about this wild hobby we all have of spending an inordinate amount of money on concerts and festivals. It was at that point I remembered several of us had listed all the festivals we had gone to, and sure enough my pick had done that. I went through his listed and picked a song from an artist on the lineup of a bunch of the festivals listed and put it all into one listing so he can get a taste of what he's spent his money on over the years. So for zircona1 , I give you "A Fool and His Money". Keep in mind I'm aware that some of these artists appear on multiple lineups present but I have no desire to have the conversation about festival homogeneity in here. 1. Dropkick Murphys- "(F)lannigan's Ball" (Warped Tour 1999) 2. Shinedown- "If You Only Knew" (Pointfest 2008) 3. Baroness- "Take My Bones Away" (Psycho Las Vegas 2016) 4. Priests- "Jj" (Maha Fest 2017) 5. Cymbals Eat Guitars- "Definite Darkness" (Lollapalooza 2010) 6. LCD Soundsystem- "Tribulations" (Loufest 2016 and also a shitload of others lol) 7. Belle and Sebastian- "Your Cover's Blown" (ATP Iceland 2015 I also wish I knew this lineup better because there was some cool stuff in there I think) 8. Pearl Jam- "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town" (ACL 2009) 9. Andrew Bird- "Tenuousness"(ACL 2009) 10. Bright Eyes- "Bowl of Oranges" (Coachella 2011) 11. Fiona Apple- "Every Single Night" (Lilith Fair 1997) 12. She & Him- "I'll Never Be Free" (Treasure Island 2010) 13. Blood Orange- "Saint"(Day for Night 2016 RIP) 14. Moby- "Pale Horses" (Area Festival 2002)

Worked on this for a long time yesterday after a really long, informative research process. I decided to focus on musical "imposters" to work within the April Fools theme. This is a collection of songs recorded by popular artists yet released under a different moniker, for a variety of reasons. Some as obvious alter-egos, some with more colorful backgrounds. The centerpiece of the playlist is Lola, perhaps the most famous song about deceitful identity. Prince intended to release an album as Camille, an alter-ego that never panned out. Various Camille tracks were re-purposed for later releases, including Shockadelica. Charlie Parker recorded with Miles Davis in 1953 under the pseudonym Charlie Chan for contractual reasons. Davis was at the height of a heroin addiction, but Parker had just kicked his, and favored alcohol. "He consumed a quart of vodka at the rehearsal, then spoke condescendingly to Davis as if it were his session and Davis an employee or a child." (Wikipedia). The recording was only released when a second session completed the album three years later - however, Parker had already died and is only featured on the first few cuts, including 'Round About Midnight. In 1979, Robert Smith did some experimental songwriting to test a replacement for bassist Michael Dempsey. The small project was called Cult Hero, and yielded I Dig You (among other songs) which was later released on an expanded edition of Seventeen Seconds. There's plenty more to dig into here if you're interested, but I wanted to share my favorite finds. The Bachman TapeFor: scoots 01. Toss It Up - Tupac Shakur as Makaveli02. Shockadelica - Prince as Camille03. Now U Got Me Hooked - Nicolas Jaar as Against All Logic04. Earth People - Kool Keith as Dr. Octagon05. 'Round About Midnight - Miles Davis Sextet feat. Charlie Parker as Charlie Chan06. Always Forever Now - U.2. as Passengers07. Lola - The Kinks as The Kinks08. Head in a Vise - Norah Jones (etc.) as El Madmo09. Let's Not Belong Together - Paul Westerberg as Grandpa Boy10. I Dig You - The Cure as Cult Hero11. Vanishing Girl - XTC as The Dukes of Stratosphear12. In the Beauty of My Surroundings - The Alarm as The Poppy Fields13. Addicted to Love - Sonic Youth as Ciccone YouthSorry it took me so long to get around to this! This is fantastic - loved it and it's going to lead to a bunch of Wikipedia searching later today. Wasn't aware that alot of these artists had performed under different names.

I am currently in the future so this is really late, but here's my mix for teekoh. It's just some interesting shit that leans toward artistic expression/ unusual structure/ classic structure reimagined. Except for the Clifford Jordan, I just thought that was nice. This was really great. I'm all about challenging things, and there was a good range of "challenging" on here. The only acts I had heard of were Talk Talk and Pussy Riot, and it was cool to have a bunch of new/wild stuff compiled all together. Thank you!!!

Just perused this thread for the first time this month and am impressed - y'all killed it with the theme this month <3
As for my playlist - this month's goes out to @timbo It's not a historical deep-dive like my last few, but is something that I've still been thinking of putting together for a few months now. Basically, the inspiration was going to a James Acaster stand-up show last year. Before the show he played one of the cuts here, "Euroleague," on repeat at least 5-6 times. Please, if you're an NBA fan, you have to hear this. As a Cavs fan I was in tears laughing by the end of it. That got me thinking about songs that make me laugh. But not, like, from comedy bands like Weird Al, Tenacious D, or Lonely Island - but rather songs that cleverly slip punchlines, absurdist tales, or anything like that into their structure. Ya know, songs that have actually made me laugh out loud while listening - but not for like, pretentious reasons.
So here we go! Note that this playlist is bookended by Paul Williams' dual ballads telling the heartbreaking tale of a Cleveland basketball legend, Anthony Bennett. Todd Snider also makes two appearances here, because - c'mon - this guy makes these kind of songs for a living. Otherwise, it's a hodgepodge of genres and jokes - and you like it and maybe even makes you laugh once or twice!

The theme has made for what I would call our best month yet, when I anticipated a lot of burnout - and we still have several playlists to come.
It will likely not be until mid-next-week that I get matchups out, so I will open my PMs for theme submissions if you guys have ideas. I can either pick one that stands out, or we can find a creative way to pick at random.

Given my penchant for instrumental music these days, I wanted try a more lyrically focused playlist this month. Fool's a light word, especially given the context this theme comes from, but there's a lot of emotion that can lead to that term. teekoh, I present to you an assortment of fools, self-described and otherwise: And look, I managed to limit it to only one track with fool in the title. Way to go, me.
