ok finally done. all i know about my person musically is that they like pearl jam, the grateful dead and jam bands. i don't really listen to either so that was kind of a problem. couldn't find a list this person made in the past year for the 2000s or 2018, also a problem. my person originally joined after the first month when she posted it was neat after everyone posted their sex playlists, and then later lasagned and valentine's day and bosma made that great joke so i thought that'd be my theme. but i was like eh that's kinda generic. then i realized like 6 days ago she's in australia so i was like perfect i'll make that the theme. then i started to look more into it and realized that there's a lot of australian artists who make some pretty sensual music, double theme! first half is kinda goofy and over the top, second half is more serious and better music imo. anyway, enjoy alady , I am so sorry I am late, you're like the best and I feel terrible about being behind. 1. Men at Work – Land Down Under 2. INXS – Need You Tonight 3. The Beegees – More Than a Woman 4. Dinvinyls – Touch Myself 5. Olivia Newton John – Physical 6. The Church - Reptile 7. Cut Copy – Lights and Music 8. King Gizzard – Sleep Drifters 9. The Avalanches – Kaleidoscope Lovers 10. Nick Cave – Push the Sky Away

Ok real talk the first morning we were here my boyfriend and I were walking down the street to get some breakfast and passed a workman in someone's front yard, and as we approached "Down Under" came on his radio and it felt like a completely silly yet perfect Australia moment so I thank you and you are spot on! Also can't tell you how much INXS I've heard here, they were one of my first musical obsessions. Can't wait to get into the rest of the playlist, thanks!

God I want to be in Australia just for the INXS alone.
I was thinking maybe for the next month we do "The EP Version" and cut this down to a 6-track playlist just to rebuild some stamina. We've had a few folks drop out and there's been plenty of mention of busy schedules - you guys wanna take it easy for a month, or keep going full steam?
Taking the temperature of the room, here.
(also matchups are done, but still not out. i want to wait to make sure everyones on board)

If we were to do this like every 6 weeks as opposed to every month I would be more inclined to step back in. I don't want to compromise the integrity of the playlist by shortening the list and want to try my best to make them all great and personalized, unfortunately that takes some time. Others might feel differently though.

I mulled over the idea for a theme this morning actually, which might make it a little easier...
Considering our next due date, I propose this month's theme is April Fools' Day.

I'm trying to picture anything but unlistenable playlists with an April Fools theme and it's kind of difficult.

My immediate thought is to do just one hour-long Brian Eno bullshit ambient track.

In, and I can guarantee mine will not be unlistenable. Start bribing Mr. Barrel now for the chance to draw my name.

The first 3 were the first ones that came to mind, and then I remembered Cinderella.
I did some referencing after and I'm not sure why I thought of a Robert Plant 80s solo track before Fool in the Rain, but Ship of Fools is still a jam

Whatever the team wants to make sure we keep this going. The short playlist idea would be a challenge for me though - would be hard to edit myself that much.
I have no idea how I would make April Fool's Day a theme, but I am game. I already had a theme in mind for this month, but I can adapt.

I took a novel approach to this month’s playlist exchange. Inspired by the theme of “The Fool,” I did a tarot spread for my match. dij22, this is your reading. Please enjoy. The Fool represents you at the present time. This is the beginning of your journey; your spirit is free. Let’s figure out where you’ll go. TV on the Radio, “Will Do” Let’s reveal the rest of your spread. Intersecting the Fool is the Challenge card. This represents the thing that you most immediately need to resolve or overcome. In this position we have the Two of Pentacles. We see that you sometimes struggle to adapt to stressful situations. You seek the ability to manage your time effectively, to prioritize, and to handle your business while remaining in control. Halsey, “Control” The events that led you to your current situation are represented by the card in the Past position: the inverted Seven of Wands. Before you decided to move forward on your journey, you had all but given up — all of these competing priorities and things happening all at once left you exhausted and overwhelmed. Brand New, “Sowing Season (Yeah)” The Queen of Swords stands before you, the next step in your journey. In the near future, you will focus on defining your boundaries and clearly communicating what you need. You will need independent, unbiased judgment to confront your challenge with honesty and truth. Jimmy Eat World, “Integrity Blues” Above the Fool is the Hermit in the inverted position. Take careful stock of what you have tried so far to solve your problem. You may have found yourself wanting to hide from your responsibilities, or withdrawing and isolating yourself. Radiohead, “How to Disappear Completely” Below the Fool, we look into your deep, hidden motivations. The inverted Six of Pentacles tells us that your struggle to balance many responsibilities may come from an unspoken belief that your past accomplishments have gone unappreciated. Have there been times that you did exactly what needed to be done, and you didn’t feel you got the recognition you deserved? Dave Gahan & Soulsavers, “You Owe Me” Now we reveal the four cards that represent your path. Now that you’ve identified the source of your challenge and what you need to do about it, let’s see how we get there. The Advice card takes into account all that is happening within your life and presents a recommendation for what approach can be taken to address the current challenges. The inverted Eight of Swords demands that you acknowledge the inner voice of self-doubt, and recognize that you’re better than it says you are. Shake off that nagging voice that’s been pestering you all along. Rihanna, “Needed Me” Next, the inverted Three of Cups. This is what’s going on around you as you confront your challenge. This card again shows you retreating into quiet solitude and introspection, even as the world around you is full of action and noise. Alessia Cara, “Here” The inverted Ace of Pentacles in the next position represents fear of wasting time. You worry that, unless you develop the skill you seek to manage your life, it will simply pass you by before you’ve had a chance. Pink Floyd, “Time” Finally, we arrive at the Outcome. In this spot, we have the High Priestess in the inverted position. She is telling you to allow yourself to feel that desire to withdraw that we see throughout your spread, but to be careful not to let it become overwhelming. Instead of hiding from your problems, make it an aspect of your self-care to take quiet time for yourself. This quiet introspective time will give you the clarity you’ll need to put your priorities in order and effectively manage them. Bjork, “Hidden Place” Good luck, dij22!

Worked on this for a long time yesterday after a really long, informative research process. I decided to focus on musical "imposters" to work within the April Fools theme. This is a collection of songs recorded by popular artists yet released under a different moniker, for a variety of reasons. Some as obvious alter-egos, some with more colorful backgrounds. The centerpiece of the playlist is Lola, perhaps the most famous song about deceitful identity. Prince intended to release an album as Camille, an alter-ego that never panned out. Various Camille tracks were re-purposed for later releases, including Shockadelica. Charlie Parker recorded with Miles Davis in 1953 under the pseudonym Charlie Chan for contractual reasons. Davis was at the height of a heroin addiction, but Parker had just kicked his, and favored alcohol. "He consumed a quart of vodka at the rehearsal, then spoke condescendingly to Davis as if it were his session and Davis an employee or a child." (Wikipedia). The recording was only released when a second session completed the album three years later - however, Parker had already died and is only featured on the first few cuts, including 'Round About Midnight. In 1979, Robert Smith did some experimental songwriting to test a replacement for bassist Michael Dempsey. The small project was called Cult Hero, and yielded I Dig You (among other songs) which was later released on an expanded edition of Seventeen Seconds. There's plenty more to dig into here if you're interested, but I wanted to share my favorite finds. The Bachman TapeFor: scoots 01. Toss It Up - Tupac Shakur as Makaveli02. Shockadelica - Prince as Camille03. Now U Got Me Hooked - Nicolas Jaar as Against All Logic04. Earth People - Kool Keith as Dr. Octagon05. 'Round About Midnight - Miles Davis Sextet feat. Charlie Parker as Charlie Chan06. Always Forever Now - U.2. as Passengers07. Lola - The Kinks as The Kinks08. Head in a Vise - Norah Jones (etc.) as El Madmo09. Let's Not Belong Together - Paul Westerberg as Grandpa Boy10. I Dig You - The Cure as Cult Hero11. Vanishing Girl - XTC as The Dukes of Stratosphear12. In the Beauty of My Surroundings - The Alarm as The Poppy Fields13. Addicted to Love - Sonic Youth as Ciccone Youth

I have a terrible headache, so thebosma , here's a bunch of songs I've liked and listened to a lot over the last year. It's a good theme. It's got good songs. I hope you like them. Now I'm going to try and nap while I have the office to myself. Love love love this by the way. I hadn't heard "My Shepherd" in a long time but I love the tone in her voice the first time she sings "Careful kid, no one gets hurt". Don't know what it is other than it's very sonically pleasing to me. Listening through the whole playlist now and really enjoying it. Thank you so much!
