The board treated him terribly, regardless of his personal actions. This is part of the problem. There are fewer out and out personal attacks, but antagonism and instigation are still unfortunate hallmarks of the conversation here. And it's been getting worse recently. I've unfortunately noticed this as well.

I guess the loss of a really nice board member willing to dedicate a bunch of his own time to board projects is the price we pay for stanning bey Dude's got a kid on the way and a solid writing career and is infinitely better than pretty much all of us. Safe travels to him

not trying to start a whole thing -
antagonism and instigation might be hallmarks of conversation now, but they were pillars of this board as most of us joined it. if you joined the lollaboard expecting not to be antagonized, you were mistaken. to echo scoots, it has very obviously toned itself down to a much more respectable level.
i get heated in conversations here from time to time and i don't fault anyone for handling an exit - no matter its duration - however they feel like it. if tim is tired of it, kudos to him for gracefully exiting instead of trying to endlessly put up with it.
but - and i mean this as nicely as possible! - if the reason you are worked up is because people antagonize each other around here, i don't know what to tell you.

We're in like one of the better timelines of the board for crying out loud

I get your point, you're not wrong about the basis. I just view it as a bug, not a feature, and much more importantly, there's a marked difference between ribbing between friends and sincere argument. You don't come here to get antagonized into active frustration, it's just something you have to put up with occasionally. And personally, I'd rather that be toned down than people be driven away. I may be in the minority here, but I much prefer the general tenor of conversation these days compared to three years ago.

I may be in the minority here, but I much prefer the general tenor of conversation these days compared to three years ago. Another important difference to note is that this iteration gets FAR less guest/new user traffic than the old one. I think a lot of the "let's make a fool out of this person" attitude (spurred by BDBU, gnasty, symb, etc.) was directed at people we knew we didn't know or would ever meet. I'm not saying it makes it better, but it does contextualize the attitude. It made it a little more popular to be rude on the board. We're in "closer quarters" now, so to speak, which I get. I also agree that I prefer the board when it doesn't suck.

can't decide if Orville Peck sucks. Kind of thought he was good at first but when I listen to the whole album I end up leaning toward "sucks" This is exactly how it went for me. Maybe not "sucks" but I definitely didn't care for it the second time around. Tim listened to Orville Peck and then immediately quit the board.

Counter-point to the whole this place is nicer overall now. True, but then when things do get heated it feels less like regular run of the mill stuff and much more personal for that reason.

I get annoyed at folks every so often and sarcasm is weirdly harder to pick up on now, but this is so much better than what it was a few years back. This is a smaller group that knows each other fairly well, and a good deal of folks have even met most of the active posters, so that would be why it does feel more personal.

This was good and fits the mold of "their debut album is fine but this band's 2nd or 3rd album will probably be a powerhouse". Promising stuff.

can't decide if Orville Peck sucks. Kind of thought he was good at first but when I listen to the whole album I end up leaning toward "sucks" Way late on this but I was the opposite. I thought it was fine, then saw him live and liked it more, now I can’t stop listening to the album 🤷♂️
