just a few short years ago, in Texas we had Free Press Summer Fest (later in Bloom), Austin Psych Fest (later Levitation), Day for Night, and Fun Fun Fun Fest (later Sound on Sound). Now its just down to ACL and SXSW pretty much and that Fortress Festival thing in Dallas I guess but that requires going to Dallas and isn't off to a great start. RIP at this point I don't even know if there are any fests left worth traveling for besides maybe Coachella

didnt levitation happen this year? yeah but its not the same. They changed it to a venue fest which I'd be super down with (FFF Nites was A+) but they sold a super limited number of venue hopping tickets so it was really just some cool shows in a row, all separately ticketed. I didn't actually go so maybe it felt more cohesive than that actually at the fest but iunno.

It looks like early iterations of the festival were held primarily at venues like Mohawk, Emo's and some place called The Red Barn. The ranch version of the fest only ran from 2013-2015. I don't know. If I was visiting Austin, I'd prefer to spend most of my time downtown (especially since most of those venues have outdoor stages anyway, and probably better drink prices). The Nites were always the best parts of FFF in my experience, so I'd be totally down for a fest that was basically 3 straight days of FFF Nites.

Yes and no, the earlier fests were venue based but not separately ticketed.

I'd love a fest that's three straight days of FFF Nites. But part of the fun of Nites was jumping venue to venue. Makes it a lot less fun if every event is separately ticketed.
