Good for the Nats. Lots of dudes on that team who deserve it. Professionally run organization, who aren't afraid to spend when necessary. Zero chance they don't re-sign Rendon.

Pulling Greinke was an all time bad management move

Just figured the board was over baseball. If you're not watching a game 7 in a championship of any sport what the hell. Sir I was watching bob Dylan sir

I just realized Rendon, Cole, Martinez, and Strasburg (assuming the latter two opt out) are all Boras clients.
Get ready for another sluggish off-season.

I like that hire for them.

Yankees added another year at $18M to keep Chapman from opting out, so essentially 3/48. Strasburg opted out, I'd like to see the White Sox take a shot at him but after last year I don't expect them to make a serious offer. No word on Martinez yet, I could see him having hesitations about beating 3/62 with draft compensation attached.

Yolmer won the gold glove. Good for him. Rizzo got his third tonight as well. Chicago baseball is good across the board

Martinez declined to opt out. Boras must have sensed that no one was going to beat $62.5 for a DH with draft compensation attached. He has the chance to opt out again next year as well. Boston is strapped for payroll, I wonder if this means they will have to trade Betts?

I assume they'll trade JD and sign Betts to a monster extension

Also, 10 players got hit with the qualifying offer: Cole, Strasburg, Rendon, Dondaldson, Bumgarner, Abreu, Will Smith (!), Ozuna, Wheeler, and Odorizzi. I'd say the last 5 all have a decent chance to accept, or should at least be thinking about it.

I assume they'll trade JD and sign Betts to a monster extension Would the Red Sox be willing to take a "throw away" prospect to get out of the Martinez deal? Because he has another opt out next year, teams will value him like a rental, and a very expensive one at that. Worst case scenario his production falls off a cliff, and he doesn't opt out, I imagine a team willing to trade for him would ask for some protection in that scenario. The Red Sox are buried in bad contracts, I don't think they can afford to pay Betts (on a long term deal) even if they can move Martinez.

Zach Wheeler is going to make a shitload of money (hopefully on the Sox).
Also just saw that JD can opt out again after 2020 AND again after 2021. I doubt any team gives up anything of value unless he gets rid of those

Right, we're on the same page re: Martinez. I don't think they can justify trading him for nothing of value.

I'm all in on Grandal and I am not prepared to see my dreams dashed. Other than that I hope Hahn signs two alive pitchers so that we don't have to count on all of Kopech/Cease/Rodon to be productive.
Probably a ton of value in those Tanner Roark types but I'd really love Wheeler.

I also like Grandal, especially since he no longer has draft compensation attached. We need a big name starter to help anchor the rotation badly. Cole is that guy, but I'm not naive enough to think Reinsdorf will spend what it takes. I'd take Wheeler, Odorizzi or Madbum as a consolation prize. We'll see.

I think a semi-realistic White Sox offseason that I'd be happy with would be ending up with these FAs:
Eric Thames is your new DH Yasmani Grandal is your new primary backstop Zach Wheeler is your new 2nd starter Alex Wood is your new bargain-ish 5th starter with upside Nicholas Castellanos is your new right fielder
I don't think that's a too crazy offseason. Obviously I would love if they went all in for Cole or Rendon (figure out where to put him later), but nothing about how Reinsdork works suggests that will be the case.

And if they're fully committed to McCann as the primary catcher, they should at the very least sign Castro so we can have someone who actually knows how to play the position in a way that, you know, benefits pitchers.

I think it''s pretty reasonable to expect Hahn to get 2/3rds of Grandal/Wheeler/Castellanos. I'd be bummed about Thames though. Still holding out hope for a JD Martinez trade
