Only saves $1.6 million this year since his qualifying offer was $17.6 mil and the signing bonus + 2020 amount is $16 mil.
Also it's not really a matter of "it's Jerry's money so it doesn't matter", since this team just doesn't spend money. The $34 mil over the course of 2021 and 2022 definitely comes at the expense of other better free agents in the future.
Smart teams don't lock down the age 34 and 35 seasons of a declining, league-average first baseman when no other teams are able to bid against them.

QO was 17.8 but I get what you're saying. There's deferrals as well. I would have preferred to go year to year, let's see what else they do this off-season before judging.

His 2020 pay is actually $11 million. They gave him a signing bonus. Savings is $6.8 mil

I liked Yolmer, but he's not worth what he's projected to earn, and he shouldn't be starting on any team looking to contend. I wonder if there's a chance we could bring him back at a lower salary? He'd be a pretty good utility guy.
