White Sox Twitter is pointing out that this is likely the precursor to another move, as the 40 man roster is currently full. The non-tender deadline is still two weeks out, there's no other reason to do this now.

I liked Yolmer, but he's not worth what he's projected to earn, and he shouldn't be starting on any team looking to contend. I wonder if there's a chance we could bring him back at a lower salary? He'd be a pretty good utility guy.I'd love that, especially as insurance in case Madrigal absolutely sucks next year. |

Domingo Santana got non-tendered. I'd like him as a cheap DH/horrible defensive outfielder rather than Castellanos for a shitload more money

Domingo Santana is a slightly better version of Dayan Viciedo. Damn I haven't heard that name in a long time. I remember Hawk trying so hard to get the nickname "Tank" to stick even though he was horrible. Santana certainly isn't good, but he isn't as catastrophic as Viciedo was. If the Sox have to choose between a Castellanos-type and a Wheeler-type, I'd rather they sign the arm and just roll with a platoon of Santana/Random Lefty Bat. |

Kevin Pillar was non tendered. I'd much rather make a run at him than Santana, and depending on cost I'd take him over Castellanos as well.

I recall he started off the season hitting everything for about two weeks and then cratered hard. Ended up being worth .4 WAR according to Baseball Reference, so ideally the Sox can do better. |

Fun Dayan Viciedo fact - he's apparently been dominating baseball in Japan:
"In the 2018 NPB season, Viciedo slashed .348/.419/.555 with 26 homers to claim the batting average and hits title leading to selection in the Central League Best 9."
