Tweet I wouldn't worry so much about picking a fancy place but maybe a place that is special to you two like maybe where you had your first date or the place you got brunch after the first time you hooked up. Call ahead and see if they can do something special for you and bring nice flowers or have them waiting there.

My wife threatened to leave me if I ever got her flowers, so I'm good.

My wife threatened to leave me if I ever got her flowers, so I'm good. More or less the same boat I'm in, too. I think I've done flowers on occasion, but it's pretty rare, and certainly not for Valentine's Day. We have a strict ignorance of that particular holiday.

Tweet, look into Community Tavern for Valentine's Day plans if you're still up in the air. It might be kind of a ways out of your 'hood, but they're doing a prix fixe thing with pairings for like $50 a person. Easily my favorite restaurant in our neck of the woods and I've had some of my all-time favorite plates there. Great setting, too.

Speaking of favorite meals, we went to the Aviary and Elske for my birthday last night and holy shit. I loved the two drinks I had at Aviary (one came served in a little brass bird that was on a nest enveloped by smoke under a cloche!) and the tasting menu at Elske was phenomenal. Cannot recommend it highly enough. It's very creative throughout and perfectly executed, and for $85 a person felt pretty reasonable for a special occasion. So good top-to-bottom.

Thanks everyone for the Valentines recommendations. We both agreed that we didn't wanna make a big to-do out of it (no gifts/flowers/whatever), so I just asked what kind of place we wanted to get dinner at. Ended up making reservations at The Bristol in Bucktown since we've both wanted to go there anyway

I don't know if this is a #HotTake everywhere or just in Ohio, but pierogis kind of suck. It isn't fad-level, but there are like three pierogi joints around here and everyone loves them and I had to just eat at one and it's mashed potatoes and pasta. That's not a meal guys.

I went to Do-Rite at lunch to get some for the team. They aren't all authentic (chocolate hazelnut and salted caramel in addition to raspberry) but they are super fresh and delicious.

I went to Bennison’s for the first time and got an apple and custard. Both were delicious.

It apparently isn't really a thing at my new work, which was surprising. My old job was all about it.
