Ugh, yeah, I thought that color of green died after it's brief fad as dingy apartment paint color in the 90's, my condolences.

via Mondo. On sale Wednesday. I have thought this label was a goofy joke for a long time and now I'll have bought two releases in a row. What was the other Mondo release you bought?

The limited expanded Batman score, and i didn't end up buying The Big Lebowski. Was going to go for the limited edition Beetlejuice that Waxworks released today, but was in a meeting when it went up. Super bummed. Will still grab the wider-released version.

A weird vinyl-related occurrence from this week - bear with me:
We had a couple over on NYE (amongst other friends) that we hang out with maybe once a month, tallying up to 4 or 5 times total. The last several times we've hung out, one joke we'd go back to is how much the guy LOVED A Star is Born, and how completely indifferent I was to seeing it - specifically because I had no interest in a soundtrack of Bradley Cooper / Lady Gaga songs. If nothing else, this should show you that we don't have a TON to talk about with these guys, but its generally a good hang.
So they show up with a wrapped gift for us (we were completely flattered, I don't think our friendship necessarily sets these expectations)... and it was the 2LP A Star is Born soundtrack on vinyl. The thing is heavy, a little more of a "decked out" release, and while I'm not inclined to research how much they paid for it I was slightly surprised that you'd show up with a $30-$40 record of something you knew the person didn't like - as opposed to, say, a cheap bottle of wine. Idk?
I really appreciated the gesture of a gift, truly, but it was 100% not a "laugh out loud" joke style gag gift and he insisted we put it on. I was spinning other stuff from the collection at that point, but ended up playing sides A/B straight through out of politeness.
Is this super weird or am I being unappreciative / thinking too hard here?

That's something I would do to someone I'm particularly close with if it was a long running joke but even then it would be iffy because it has a chance of flopping, and I would have maybe went with something cheaper and a bottle of wine. I would have maybe printed a sticker of the movie poster and put it over the wine label. Actually shit that would have been funnier.

Oh don't get me wrong, "I got you this because you hate it!" can be hilarious between good friends but it's an expensive gift for that (IMO) and we just don't really know them that well? I just feel bad complaining about a gift but its been on my mind!

over my years as an adult on christmas, i now understand there are people who try to give a gift that they think the recipient would like and then people who give a gift that they like and want the recipient to like too.

Same can be said for book purchases, although that may not happen as frequently. I have a stack of brand new hardcover books that were purchased for me that I have no intention of reading.

This. I'm guessing it was a "this guy is into music and needs to hear this because it is amazing so this is my way to guilt/force him into listening to it" more than an attempt to be funny.

They left before midnight too, possibly because there was no makeout orgy to Bradley Cooper's NYE banger, "Maybe Its Time" from A Star is Born.

going shopping tonight and have Cigarettes After Sex and Portishead on the mind lets see what happens Shop carried mostly older stuff / represses, so I ended up with the 30th anniversary of; I also accidentally bought Yoko Ono's Plastic Ono Band absent-mindedly thinking it was Lennon. It was brand new and so cheap I didn't even bother to really look at it. Rough.

Which store did you go to? Vinyl Underground @ 7th Heaven they had a really great sale going on some 2018 represses (hence Kick) and I had an additional 20% off..I couldn't resist. It does sound amazing. New Sensation actually had me grinning ear to ear.
