Guys I ran a sub-9 minute mile after doing a shot and chugging a beer and I've never been more proud.
Also finishing the Bolder Boulder to Born to Run while wearing a Springsteen shirt was great. They even showed me on the big screen.

hurt my knee some how and its been bugging me for over a week so workouts haven't been that great lately. can still do some running and what not, but i'm afraid i'm gonna fuck it up more.
anyone have some sort of knee sprain before ? trying to do some sort of self diagnosis instead of having to go to the doctor and shell out $$ and have them tell me nothing

3 months y'all???
Anyway. I just did my second class of orange theory. I like it so far. Burned over 900 calories both times according to their little monitor. Seems excessive but idk.
Coach before the class talking to me 1 on 1 since I'm new: your heart rate is at the extreme when you're in the orange or red, you should only be there for 12 mins during our hour long class
Me: ok
Me during class: in red and orange for 48 mins. ok.

oh hello
i accidentally lost 15 pounds since starting this new job before the summer because it involves me walking around all day, i do like 7-ish miles a day? which is a good improvement from how i used to be
i also have been eating the exact same meal for lunch every day, which is a big bowl with a big ass piece of salmon, kale, walnuts, cranberries, and quinoa and it rules

I keep reading that as "a big bowl with a big ass" and stopping there mentally. Really great stuff.

Almost slipped through the cracks this year, but if anyone is running the Chicago Marathon this weekend and is interested in being placed in an advantageous corral, hit me on PM and I can help board regulars and their immediate family.
The VIP perk was much harder to obtain last year, so I'm afraid that's no longer on offer (although if it materializes, you are welcome to it).

I am volunteering at the Old Town Fleet Feet water station this year. Hyped, but wish it was going to be a bit warmer.

Not great from a spectator/volunteer standpoint, but that's perfect marathon weather.
I've run two marathons where the temp was over 80 degrees, one in snow, one in rain and one in Florida. One of these days I'll catch a break.

Just signed up for the Colfax Half in May, and I already have a guaranteed spot in the Chicago Marathon in October after deferring my spot this year.
I say this every gd year, but I'm shooting for personal best times in both races.

Clocked in at 176.2 this morning which puts me at the lightest I've been since I'd guess my first year of college. Now if only this fucking gut would get smaller (I'm sure it is but not as easy to notice).

Has anyone here run the NYC Marathon before? Planning way in advance, but I want to run in 2021 and I'm just trying to outline logistics while I'm bored.

Raises Hand...
Ran it twice, but the most recent was more than a decade ago, so my info is probably worthless. At that time everyone HAD to be bused to Staten Island, so the meet-up is insanely early at the NY library or somewhere around there. Once on Staten Island, find a spot in a tent and hopefully you brought reading material to keep you occupied for sitting around for 3+ hours. When you head to the start, there used to be three starts lines. IF you choose (or are assigned) the lower deck of the bridge, be advised that you will be peed on for the duration of your time on the bridge. It's worse along the edge of the road of course, but there are people on the upper deck that are somehow peeing in the middle of the street and that's filtering down to you below. It didn't take me long to figure out what was happening, but if you know it's going to happen...try to get a start on the upper deck.
Some impressive gravity urinals in the park while you're waiting for the start as well...like hundreds of yards long open urinals draining to the bottom of the hill.
TL:DR - The NYC Marathon...it's all about pee.

Got a half marathon tomorrow that will be kicking off at 26F with a windchill around 20F, supposed to be pretty cloudy too so not even respite of the sun. Going to be roughhhhhh. Mostly concerned about my fingers which normally start hurting after 20-30 mins in that kind of temperature...gonna double up on gloves I think.
Last half marathon of the season and just hoping to finish in one piece.

Welp I just signed up for my insurance's fitness plan/gym membership thingy. I've been about 30 pounds overweight for most of the last several years and my doc seems to think if I just stop drinking heavy IPAs and go back to the gym 3-4 times a week for an hour doing what I did in college (the last time I thought I was hot or whatever) I should shed it fairly easily.
Now that I have said this out loud it will never happen, but I have certainly blown $25 per month worse ways

I think I have shin splints. I've had pain in the shin on my right leg since Sunday. I figured it would go away if I rested it a few days, but it hasn't. Went for a run last night to see if working it would make it better, it has not.

Thanks, I'll check it out later.
Years ago I had shin splints in both legs - walking backwards on a treadmill was helpful.

I've suffered from shin splints for year now. Stretching is very important, also, if you could go to a therapist, so he/she work on both shins, that would help a lot. It's quite painful, but it really helps

I signed up for a seasonal series of half marathons on Monday, so now I have 5 half marathons and one full on the schedule for 2020. The first half is next month and I am not at all prepared for it, so that won't be fun, but otherwise I'm pretty psyched.
