Weirdly enough, I discovered yesterday that I haven’t listened to the self-titled. Gonna do that tomorrow. it's been a long time for me but i'm fairly certain it doesn't merit hearing more than once. 1. alligator 2a. cherry tree 2b. sad songs 3. high violet 4. trouble will find me 5. boxer 6. sleep well beast 7. virginia ep 8. self titled

Love Cherry Tree and Virginia but not going to compare them with these.
The top 3 is so close.

I really love Cherry Tree but I feel weird ranking it with the albums. I've listened to Sad Songs and the self-titled but its been a while and I didnt listen to either enough to rank them but I'm pretty certain they'd be at 6 and 7. I think High Violet gets points with me for getting me into them, when I first heard it I listened to it soooo much. If I hadn't heard it first I wouldn't be surprised if I put Boxer above it. I've never actually listened to the Virginia EP I might do that today.

Boxer is what got me into them and I'm sure is a reason why it's my #1. A part of me does think High Violet is better but Boxer just flows so damn well.

Listened to the self-titled today and actually quite liked it. I'm not sure if I'd rank it higher than anything else, but I'm glad I listened to it.

yeah self-titled isn't bad. it's missing a lot of the qualities that make the national great but it's pretty much pretty good indie rock.

It says $50 per year when I click to subscribe which I guess isn’t awful if they’re giving you cool content and a vinyl every year

God it is always such bullshit to me when 'exclusive merch' is considered a perk of something. Ya mean we get to spend more money?? Hoo boy!

I mean, y'all don't have to buy anything. I agree that the whole concept is a little disappointing, but $50 for exclusive content and a record every year, plus whatever the ticketing perks are seems like it would be worthwhile to some folks.

Dear The National,
Please give me and the other five people who paid full-price for Homecoming complimentary Cherry Tree subscriptions.

Not no, but it's all so vague at this point. Knowing what the record for this year is would color my opinion a lot.

I agree that the whole concept is a little disappointing, but $50 for exclusive content and a record every year, plus whatever the ticketing perks are seems like it would be worthwhile to some folks. $40 for a t-shirt is already kind of crazy before you consider that you just paid $50 to join the club. I don't know maybe like one extra perk, maybe a free t-shirt for joining or big discounts on merch and I'd even consider doing something like this because the ticketing thing would be nice since I expect them to come to Texas later this year, and the vinyl sounds cool. But just those two things and then some overpriced exclusive stuff is pretty rough

how does this compare to like the ten club?
also, is it for sure that you get a vinyl sent to you at no additional cost for the $50?

how does this compare to like the ten club? also, is it for sure that you get a vinyl sent to you at no additional cost for the $50? The primary differences are that Ten Club came from a time when a fan club matters and when Pearl Jam plays an arena its hard to get tickets.

U2 charges $50 per year for essentially the same perks. But their yearly gift is rarely a vinyl. But like Pearl Jam, their shows can be very difficult to get tickets to.
