When I say "get a pass", I mean why is it okay to still support his art? It seems he's done/said enough to be ostracized by this board, based on previous standards set.

Yeah the Kanye double standard is puzzling and I say that as someone who was a massive fanboy until this year.

I’ll admit the fact that he has features from a couple of shitty people and just signed Bari is bad, and really makes me question being a fan, but at the same time he hasn’t physically or sexually assaulted anyone and it’s not like his political opinions turn into actual policy. He’s not a lawmaker. He isn’t converting anyone to the trump camp by wearing a MAGA hat, I don’t think, and I imagine that’s lost him more fans.
This is not the ideal version of Kanye and it’s very weird but it’s not fair to put him in the same camp as Brand New or even Josh Homme to a degree.
All that to say I will probably not contribute to this albums streaming numbers and I won’t exactly be parading my support for him at this point.

As I've been saying since day one his support of Trump, as incredibly misguided as it is was, was never focused on policies and politics and despite the unintended implications it was never anything that bothered me for that reason.
Trump support as a person actually makes sense if you get Kanye and isn't too surprising. Dude had always been about eliminating barriers and elitism so despite the fact that trump is as privileged as they come him supporting trump as a celebrity who jumped into politics and shifting the paradigm is very Kanye.
But him supporting those who have admitted to sexual assault really doesn't align with any of this and is totally fucked and why I said earlier it's the worst thing he's done. Even as someone who has watched dozens of hours of interviews idgi.
I'll listen to Yahndi because at the end of the day I like to and will probably enjoy it. Though I do feel guilty about it and know i shouldn't. #privilege #brunchdrunk

Yeah I'm with Neader in that it's extremely privileged take to have. I can't say that I would criticize anyone for getting off the Kanye train during all of this.

To add I know it's seen as different since he himself didn't do it but it still perpetuates the culture that leads to shit like Kavanaugh. Kanye is like the comedy cellar of hip hop rn.

He just comes in and calls people pieces of shit. It adds nothing ever. I don't care if people don't like Kanye. I can't believe some of the shit he is doing either

I will say his "abolish the 13th amendment" comment was pretty unsettling just now and is making me regret voicing any semblance of support up in here.

At this point he’d be better off just making beats and designing shoes. Dude should take a break from making new music for a while.
He’s making garbage statements and supporting garbage policies. BUT, he hasn’t assaulted sexually anyone or done anything illegal. I guess for me despite his shit politics he hasn’t done anything nearly as bad as all of these musicians who have pedophilia and sexual assault allegations against them.
As far as his political views, nearly nobody takes him seriously. Kanye supporting Trump isn’t going to induce some massive wave of urban youth/sneakerhead republicans. If he seriously runs for president I’m doubtful he’d win a round of primaries and there’s no way he’d have the financial backing and widespread support to mount a successful independent run.
If Kanye’s dipshit political views and potential presidential run have any sort of actual impact on an election to me that’s less an issue with Kanye and more a horrific failure of the Democratic Party to actually connect with people.

This actually makes a lot of sense to look at it in this light but I feel like it gives a lot of credit to someone who recently went on record of saying "slavery is a choice" a couple months ago. I dunno, if someone's views on slavery's legality require a degree of interpretation I don't typically feel great about it. Anyways, I'm taking a step back from ye right now regardless. The more I think about the features and ASAP Bari stuff the more it bothers me

I'm not worried about him influencing urban youth, I'm worried about him normalizing this MAGA shit for the white suburban bros who make up the majority of his fanbase.
