1. The Room screening with Tommy Wiseau at the Music Box. This was back when the movie was first breaking out, and people were just figuring out all of hte things to yell at the screen. I haven't laughed that hard in a very long time. 2. Return of the Jedi, opening weekend in 1984? I think we saw it like that Sunday night, I was 10 years old and got to stay out super late even though I had school the next day 3. My family got preview passes to see Gremlins 2, we got to fill out those surveys, and I think I even got a shirt from it
Can't think of any other definitive ones, probably seeing movies like Fight Club, Blair Witch and Sixth Sense back in '99 before everything got spoiled for each of those

Not really sure if I can put these in any sort of order and most of these are just people doing stupid shit that I still think about
1. Casually invited a few people to see the Evil Dead remake when I was in high school, all of those people casually invited a few people, and somehow a third of my (small) senior class ended up there. I’m pretty sure I was the only one there who had seen the original and everyone else completely freaked out.
2. When they restored The Third Man several years ago I went with a van load of friends to Champaign to go see it. One of my favorite movies of all time and the restoration looked incredible so it was a really great vibe in the theater. Some college aged guy said “that was cool, but that zither was annoying as fuck” as soon as the movie ended and everyone started screaming at him.
3. E and I saw Enemy at a shitty theater in Peoria where someone put in a bootleg DVD of the movie and didn’t bother hiding it. It was just one other couple besides us in the theater by the end of the movie, everyone else had walked out. As soon as the credits hit the remaining dude got really pissed off and kicked the theater door open.
4. Saw 50 Shades of Gray opening weekend with a bunch of dudes. We laughed pretty much the whole time because it was terrible. A ton of couples in the theater on Valentine’s Day dates and a bunch of 20 year old guys hootin and hollerin. We probably should have gotten kicked out.
5. My friend was asked to introduce and lead a discussion for a special screening of Daisies, also in Champaign. He has an incredible amount of knowledge regarding Czech New Wave films, especially Daisies and the historical context surrounding it. Some U of I professor was there and kept trying to trap my friend to like, prove he wasn’t qualified to talk about it or something and he knew every answer right off the bat. Professor got so mad that he got up and left halfway through the discussion and stomped out of the theater.

One I'll add to my list was seeing Akira in the theater way back when that first came out. I think it was only playing in like Hinsdale or something around here. But man that was a mindfuck, even when I had already read all of the comics up til that point.

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone opening day 2. Sneaking in to see Tropic Thunder opening day 3. The Dark Knight 4. Witnessing half the people in the theater taking photos of the opening scroll for The Force Awakens 5. Watching Inherent Vice and seeing folks leave after 30 mins

Lmaooo literally are you me? My friends and I attended each of the 50 Shades premiere nights - the first one being the most memorable. We snuck a bunch of vodka into the theater and two of my friends got lost on their way back from the bathroom. They ended up finding spots in the back of the theater and we could hear them cackling from the front. Another big highlight was marathoning movies 1 and 2 before the third one came out. Emma got, maybe, the most hammered I've ever seen her that night. A sober friend drove us all to Stony Subs on 84th for a gym shoe afterwards. 10/10 night.

Oh and I'll add on the time my parents took me to see Home Alone. My dad was pissed and talking loudly to himself before Kevin was actually left by his family about how rude he was, and then once the whole burglarizing started he couldn't stop laughing. We almost got into an accident on the way home because he was still laughing in the car.
My dad has the most distinctive laugh and it is very loud so I'm sure everyone in that theater hated my family. Good times.

Only thing that really jumps out at me is my dad taking me to see Jurassic Park at the massive crazy theater that used to be on McClurg Court when I was seven.
I don't really like going to movies in theaters recently. Most of the fun stuff I think of is related to the people I was with rather than the thrill of seeing the movie in theaters.
